October marks the return of Mobile World Congress (MWC) Los Angeles, happening live and in-person at the LA Convention
Center on October 26-28. We are excited to participate and speak at this year’s event. MWC LA, in partnership with CTIA,
gathers U.S. policymakers and key wireless industry stakeholders to discuss trends and developments in government and public
policy – as well as exploring the spotlight theme of the event: Connected Impact. This year the focus will be around the
technology that’s shaping our world: The 5G Era, IoT Connectivity, Telco Cloud and Disruptive Innovation. If you’re attending the
event, reach out for a chat and a cup of coffee – we’ll be glad to host you in our meeting space. See our Events section below for
more information on Microsoft at MWC LA.

Unleashing the true potential of 5G with cloud networks
For many, the intersection of 5G wireless and the Internet offers very little
by way of new information, just from a quick, surface-level glance. However,
things look very different when considered in light of the 5G New Radio
(NR) standard. For example, consider a new technology in the 5G NR called
URLLC—which is short for ultra-reliable low-latency communications.
Designed for mission-critical and latency-sensitive Internet services, URLLC
is a configuration and technology feature that enables a new class of
applications and services.

Deploy 5G services with Azure
The combination of 5G and Azure provides value to the enterprises in a
variety of ways. You can create end-to-end 5G services for high bandwidth,
low latency applications such as IoT Edge applications for high sensor
density. You could also deploy live video analytics, which depends on low
latency. All these services can be developed using familiar Azure tools.
5G Open Innovation Lab – Beyond What's Next
The 5G Open Innovation Lab brings together the brightest minds to build
what’s next. We select 10-15 like-minded startups in two cohorts
throughout the year. Over our 12-week program, we become your business
advisor and open strategic doors for product deployment, go-to-market,
and fundraising. We are excited to show you what some of our partners and
startups have been able to create through our tailored program.

Beyond 5G: Standards for Sixth Generation Networks | Center for
Strategic and International Studies
There is now broad recognition that 5G will shape the economic future and
will be the infrastructure for future innovation and economic growth. This
understanding has led to the establishment of international 5G standards.
6G — while years away from deployment — is already in an exploratory
research phase. 6G is projected to bring faster speeds, lower latency, and
more networks utilizing Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. This requires a
discussion on the development and implementation of global sixth
generation network standards.
