4. Origin
A figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied
to an object or action to which it is not literally
applicable.
Late 15th century: from French métaphore, via Latin
from Greek metaphora, from metapherein ‘to
transfer’.
5. Definition
…. A metaphor is where we compare 2 things and say
they are the same:
“Ali is a cunning fox.”
Ali is a ‘cunning’ fox + fox is ‘cunning’= Metaphor
Ali is not ‘fox’. He is so ‘cunning’ as fox.
6. Examples
“Sana is a sheep, just following everyone else.”
Sana follows + sheep follows = Metaphor
Sana is not ‘sheep’. She ‘follows’ others so much just as

on Resemblance = one thing is used to refer to
another thing in order to show or suggest that
they are somehow similar.
18. So,

“experiencing one thing or
thinking about one thing in terms of another.”
