Space Camp is a summer camp for children between 8 and 12 years old that are curious about Science and Technology, and especially about Aeronautics and Space. SCC combines all the previous areas of interest in a didactic way by playing cooperatively.

2. Introduction: Space Exploration “ The Earth is the cradle of mankind, but we cannot live forever in a cradle” Konstantin TSIOLKOVSKY . Russian scientific, true visionary and pioneer of astronautics > Space exploration is the result of the irresistible IMPULSE that man has to explore and discover, that leads him to reach places never explored before. > But Space is a very HOSTILE environment, where man is exposed to microgravity, radiation, extreme temperatures, insufficient air and pressure...

4. Why a SPACECAMP? > To promote essential values for living in a GLOBALIZED world, represented by the International Space Station (ISS) >To establish a LINK between children and professionals to enhance LEARNING about space > To build a common and innovative EDUCATIONAL PROJECT where children play an ACTIVE role and deepen their interests to satisfy their CURIOSITY > To motivate children towards SCIENCE and TECHNOLOGY , and encourage their interest in the ENGINEERING field

5. How is a SPACECAMP? > A simulated astronaut TRAINING adapted to the values that children can learn. > Astronaut candidates will be divided into SMALL TEAMS to perform most of the games. > Overcoming the various stages of training until the team finally gets ready to embark on their simulated mission. This year ... a PERMANENT LUNAR BASE! > During this process of simulations and games, children will learn to work together. Likewise, they will improve their KNOWLEDGE about space, space exploration and its importance. > Last but not least, our young astronauts will enjoy an EXCITING and very DYNAMIC stay that will ENCOURAGE them to study and investigate more about science and engineering.

6. Who is behind? CLARA SALIDO, Director She holds a graduate degree in Psychology and is currently Director of a nursery of Alt Penedès and member of the Movement Education Maresme. Since 2000 has organized and managed camps for children 3 to 16 years old. XAVIER ALABART, A3E Project Responsible He is Industrial Engineer from UPC and got a Masc. Science in Space Management at International Space University. He worked 4 years in a project with the Education Office of the European Space Agency. He is currently a consultant. PATRIZIA RUIZ , Media Responsible and PR She graduated in Aeronautical Engineering at UPC. She is alumni of the Communauté des Villes Ariane and the International Space University. She currently works at Dept of Engineering Projects of Air Europa. MERITXELL VIÑAS , Monitor She graduated in Aeronautical Engineering. She is alumni of the Communauté des Villes Ariane and the International Space University. She is currently working at Advanced Logistics Group in Barcelona, in the division of Aviation and Aeronautics.

What do you do in a SPACECAMP? > To HAVE FUN making new friends in a natural and collaborative environment > To find out how is ASTRONAUT’S lifestyle, from training process until the space mission is completed > To get NOTIONS of science and space technology > To feel the VALUES associated with life in space: cooperation, responsibility and spirit of self-improvement

Main activities: > Designing and constructing your own low-scale SPACECRAFT > Building water –propelled ROCKETS > Games and simulations about life in a BASE on the Moon > Simulation of LANDING a robot on Mars > Children's games about SPACE > Try FOOD that astronauts eat in space > AND MANY MORE!! !

10. Main goals: 1. SOCIOCULTURAL OBJECTIVES > Nearing the SPACE WORLD , present and future and the challenges of astronautics > Explore the BEAUTY of the universe > To learn about the History of Space EXPLORATION > To get familiar with the VOCABULARY of space > Learn some keywords in ENGLISH

SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGIC OBJECTIVES > Basic knowledge of ASTRONOMY > Basics of human body BEHAVIOUR > Basic knowledge about EFFECTS of space environment on human body > Physics BASICS (propulsion forces, etc) through experimentation > Basic knowledge about LIFE SUPPORT and TECHNOLOGY > The role of aerospace technology in reducing HUMAN IMPACT on the environment
