Xi Cheng, which loosely translates to “Dawn
of a New City”, is a 568 acre residential and
mixed use development that exudes elegant
style and tranquility. Composed of three intercon-
necting areas, including the Buena Vista residential
community and the Las Terrazas commercial district,
and tucked against the base of majestic Jinggangshan
Mountains its dramatic location resonates with urban
convenience and comfortable community living. Pocket
parks, green space and water emphasize the organic
nature of the master plan. The layout flows with the ex-
isting topography; a natural progression of space that
adds to a sense of discovery.

The service apartments and residential
areas, while part of the overall core,
have their own entrances and private
garden spaces. A series of courtyard
gardens and terraces at varying levels
give maximum possible outdoor spaces
to the residents to enjoy. Water cas-
cades down along a linear garden into
the clubhouse courtyard from pools
and fountains on the southern hilltop,
where a nature preserve surrounds a
community swimming pool.

The center’s retail, dining and entertainment
are situated along a broad, tree-lined, cres-
cent-shaped piazza. The village like layout of the
project features many landscaped spaces to explore,
dine and enjoy ranging from an open-air retail arcade
lined with raised planters and shade trees to a large
lawn area that provides seating space for performances
at the open air pavilion. Water features and fountains
are integrated on many levels in a seamless fashion to
give comfortable and relaxed ambience for customers.

Nature is central to the landscape at Batam
Laguna Villas. The landscape design for this
42-hectare master plan integrates an indigenous
mangrove forest with an exclusive hilltop eco-resort and
a lakeside residential community. While providing views of
the Singapore skyline and the Java Sea, recreational ameni-
ties and educational opportunities are provided through a
series of upland lakes and a trail system, lush with a diverse
palette of native tropical plant material.

Nature is celebrated with stone walls, stone columns, heav-
ily carved wood trellis structures, flower-like paving patterns
reminiscent of water lilies, and interpretive signage.

Istanbul’s new “life center,” the Mall of Istan-
bul is one of Turkey’s largest mixed-use devel-
opments. Appealing to the area’s high income and
upper middle class the project combines retail, residen-
tial, office and hotel elements with a large entertainment
space. Four contemporary residential towers and a hotel
tower stand atop landscaped platforms and connect to the
mall’s roof garden via a series of pedestrian skybridges.

Rooftop common areas between the towers share a unified
palette of small shade trees, flowering shrubs and seasonal
color accents while each tower’s unique identity is individu-
ally expressed through four distinct compositions of plant
material, gazebos and water features. One main recreation
area roof garden contains several pools, a barbeque area,
café and open lawn space.

The sloped site for the landscape design of this
42 story luxury urban hotel tower and shopping
center provided an opportunity for numerous out-
door spaces at different elevations.

The formal landscape identity of the upper level
Hyatt Hotel entrance; the lushly planted, lower lev-
el plaza with outdoor café accented with a curved
water wall; and an on-grade shopping mall en-
trance plaza with amphitheater-style granite plant-
ers that double as a seat wall and energized by a
water tower feature as the focal point for daytime
and evening shopping and entertainment.

are the centerpieces of an interactive
environmental and botanical center.
With a former rubber plantation as
background, residential lots are com-
fortably shaded and offer stunning

Throughout traditional Islamic and Egyptian
landscapes, expressions of man’s relationship to
the sun, the stars (the zodiac) and the earth evolved
from an age-long fascination with the heavens. In the
Dreamland Golf Residential landscape, these themes are re-
alized in the spaces created by the buildings. Color, vistas,
motion, fragrance and sound are used to interpret the land-
scape of Dreamland.

Using water and indigenous plant materials with symbolic
and historical meaning, spaces are connected and the stages
of life are expressed with a linear garden path beginning and
ending at the neighborhood entry (birth) and ending at the
“gardens of tranquility” at the golf course (eternal life).

A traditional paradise garden was a perfect square enclosed
against the outside world, crossed by water channels
symbolic of the four rivers of heaven, and containing,
theoretically, all the fruits of the earth.

A landscape of lush planting creates a memo-
rable experience for visitors and residents of
this new mixed use master plan. Various land uses,
including, hotel, office, residential, commercial, cultural
and riverfront park, are connected via a network of wide
linear gardens. Anchored by a monumental garden, a densely
landscaped greenway parallels the parkway and bridge
allowing a safe pedestrian experience throughout the
development. Flowering trees and shrubs, palm trees and
fountains soften architecture and create a living buffer for
public enjoyment, civic identity and economic viability.

This new 6675 acre community plan is truly
comprehensive in its integration of enhanced
economic value, environmental preservation and a
physical and social infrastructure that supports the needs
of contemporary life. The plan exhibits outstanding attention
to detail while maintaining a sense of the immense scale of
the project. Emphasis on environmental sensitivity influences
the landscape design of the Legend City master plan. The
plan features native plant materials, special pavings, flowers
and water amenities in formal and informal arrangements.
Certain neighborhood entries interpret local folklore with
plantings and signage. These themes are carried throughout
the community creating a unique identity for residents and
visitors of Legend City... The “Environment City.”

residential community is defined using Mediterra-
nean/Italianate gardens, promenades and water features.
Streams and natural landscaping elements frame the

multiple levels.

The formal French Neoclassical style is ex-
pressed by the disciplined and architectural
layout of Blue Bay and Blue Mountain. Using ge-
ometry, symmetry and balance to compose the classic
formality of the gardens, spaces are defined and created
by long axial vistas, straight tree-lined avenues, rectan-
gular lawns, clipped shrubs and French inspired fountains
and water features.
