Paul Katsus studies and documents sports cars and muscle cars from the 1960s-1970s. In 1969, Mercury produced the Cyclone CJ muscle car with the 428 Cobra Jet engine to compete with the Dodge GTX and Plymouth Road Runner. The Cyclone CJ could reach over 100 MPH and quarter mile times of under 14 seconds. Mercury only sold around 2,175 Cyclone CJ models that year. The rare Super Cobra Jet option included an upgraded engine with stronger components. Paul Katsus considers the 1969 Mercury Cyclone to be one of the most collectible Mercury models.
