Objectives
1. To encourage regular exposure to our church through faithful attendance
2. To enlist wholehearted commitment to our church through church membership
3. To stimulate dedicated service to our church as evidenced by church involvement
Procedures
1. Regular exposure to the church is encouraged as . . .
• Courtyard Center Volunteers
- model a sincere love for Christ, his church, and the unconverted or uncommitted
- share the gospel with the unconverted visitors and what the Bible says is a healthy church
to the converted but uncommitted attenders (through spoken, written, or recorded word)
- pray for the visitors and the uncommitted to be committed to the body of Christ through
conversion and/or membership
• Administrative Assistant
- maintains inventory of relevant publications for courtyard center volunteers
- publishes accurate information concerning fellowship groups, Bible studies, and service
opportunities
• Follow Up Coordinator
- arranges for PODs to meaningfully connect with absentee church members
- accurately records that information in the database and membership report for future
shepherding

• Elders
- reach out to absentee members through their Bible study leaders
- follow up with specific members who have been prevented for attending for important
spiritual or physical reasons

2. Wholehearted commitment to the ministry is enlisted as . . .
• Member Center Volunteers

commitment to the local church to uncommitted regular attenders (through spoken,

needed) and/or meaningful membership

- train believers to partner with our church in an understanding way
- teach believers how to find community and utilize their spiritual gifts at this particular
church

- teaches inquisitors about the true nature of ministry
- connects non-involved members with potential ministry opportunities
• Administrative Assistant
- publishes accurate information concerning fellowship groups, Bible studies, and service
opportunities
- updates membership database enabling pastors and elders to utilize this information for
seeking more meaningful involvement for regular attenders

Membership Team Roles
1. Pastor of Membership
• Provide spiritual oversight for the membership ministry
- daily prayer concerning incoming and new church members along with volunteers
- plan and execute effective processes for assimilating believers
• Officially represent the membership department to the church leadership and body
- update and include elders on shepherding efforts in monthly meetings
- represent our church’s membership philosophy to other local churches that inquire
- conduct membership interviews with prospective members not in an AFG
• Establish and develop lay-led membership ministry teams
- weekly meetings with paid membership staff
- monthly meetings with leaders of courtyard, membership, baptism, and involvement
coordinators
- provide regular encouragement and training for courtyard, membership, baptism, and
involvement volunteers
• Responsibly steward monetary resources
• Ensure the execution of membership ministry goals
2. Administrative Assistant
• Pastoral Assistance
- handle phone calls for Membership Office daily
- scheduling and conducting membership interviews as needed
- miscellaneous purchasing needs, processing reimbursement forms, etc. for the entire
membership ministry as needed
- update fellowship group rosters and visitor information on a weekly basis
- answer general membership inquiries and updates
- update records concerning deceased, transferred, and disciplined members
- inform members who have been removed for inactivity that they have been removed
through letter
• Attendance Reporting
- keep updated listing of current GCC attendance by serving as follow up coordinator
- run weekly attendance reports for follow-up teams (4 week, 6 month, etc.)
- prepare monthly membership report

3. Courtyard Center Coordinator (w/ help of Intern)
• Assemble and lead a healthy team of believers to serve in the Courtyard Center
• Secure resources needed for ministry (refreshments, cutlery, publications)
• Steward resources effectively
4. Membership Coordinator (w/ help of Administrative Assistant)
• Membership application processing
- keep listing of initial interview applications
- process new applications on a weekly basis
- send out reminder letters
- follow up periodically on incomplete applications
- conduct membership interviews
• Membership supplies
- keep Member Center supplies stocked
- maintain inventory of “What We Teach,” paper applications, bylaws, folders,
“Understanding Baptism” CD, “Membership Matters” books
• Membership class support
- process attendees
- produce list for Right Hand of Fellowship service
- update status of class attendees upon class completion
- create a picture list for Media
• Membership class
- schedule at least 9 Right Hand of Fellowship services and receptions per year with various
departments
- work with volunteer teams in preparing for classes
- set up weekly classes by contacting elders, teachers, hosts, facilities, and technical support

5. Baptism Coordinator (w/ help of Administrative Assistant)
• Guide and assist believers in preparing their testimony to share with the congregation
• Help pastor and baptism candidates prepare for baptism
• Schedule pastors and people for baptism on Sunday nights
6. Involvement Coordinator (w/ help of Intern)
• Check in with new members encouraging meaningful fellowship and the use of their spiritual
gifts in the body.
• Acquire, update, and dispense helpful materials related to ministerial involvement
• Teach uninvolved members about the true nature of ministry and connect them with
potential ministry opportunities
7. Follow Up Coordinator (w/ help of Administrative Assistant)
• Pursue absentee members encouraging them to partake of the fellowship provided by the
local church through the POD interns
- weekly attendance cards from Monday/Tuesday volunteer teams
- overall member updates via notes on offering envelopes, calls, etc.
- scan applications from recent membership classes
• Elder Reports
- prepare lists of members to be removed from membership for each Elders’ Meeting
- accurate statistics concerning members v. regular attenders
- correspondence with pastors to confirm removal
- oversee and update the absence reports being sent to pastoral staff
