Siege weapons were used to break into castles during medieval times. They were always uniquely built for the specific castle being attacked. Battering rams, made of tree trunks lined with metal and suspended on wheels, were used to break castle gates. Siege towers, which took over 200 men to push and were designed specifically for each castle, allowed attackers to scale castle walls. Siege weapons played an important role in taking control of fortified castles.
