• Definition: urine condition
• Examples:
• Glycosuria
• Hematuria
Glycosuria
• Definition: presence of glucose in the urine
• Treatment: less intake of sugars
• Causes:
• There is too much glucose in the blood and the high level surpasses the renal threshold.
Therefore, the renal tubules are unable to reabsorb all the glucose during reabsorption
resulting with presence of glucose in the urine
Hematuria
• Definition: presence of blood in the urine
• Treatment: antibiotics to treat the underlying cause
• Causes:
• Strenuous exercise
• Kidney stones
• Urinary tract infections
• Kidney or blood diseases
-emia
• Suffix
• Definition: blood condition
• Examples:
• Sickle Cell Anemia
• Hypocalcemia
Sickle Cell Anemia
• Definition: erythrocyte have a sickle,
curved shape, can lead to hemolytic
anemia
• Treatment: medications, blood
transfusion, bone marrow transplant
• Causes:
• Congenital, genetics
Hypocalcemia
• Definition: condition of having low
calcium in the blood, may cause tetany
• Treatment: increase intake of calcium and
vitamin D supplements
• Causes:
• Associated with hyposecretion of parathyroid
hormone
• Natural aging
• Malnutrition
