Editor's Notes

  1. -The cover line has been done in a white font with a black drop shadow so that it stands out against the image. -The left third of the magazine has been occupied by cover lines and an image to accompany the story inside. This follows the conventions of other magazine covers.-Buzz words ‘FREE` and ‘EXCLUSIVE’ have been used in order to catch the readers attention.-The mast head has been done in a bold colour so that it stands out against the background. The red colour is consistent with the red on the t-shirt worn on the main image.-Main images has direct mode of address which engages the reader/ catches their eye.
  2. -Set out in a grid/ follows convention (but it is not a formal layout)-A condensed contents/ only showing the main articles-Small section showing a preview of what will be in the next issue/ interreges the reader/ makes them want to purchase the next issueMain image on the page is taken from the images taken for the main story The editors note is a convention of many magazines.
  3. -The focus of the main images covers the whole of the left page and the blackness of the background of the images covers the right hand side leaving an area on which the main body of text can go.The buzz word ‘Exclusive’ is used to make the read think that the story is only going to be in this magazine. A pull quote has been used to highlight an engaging part of the main text urging the reader to read the full article. direct mode of address had been used to catch the readers eye as they go through the magazine and so draws them in and engages them with the story
  4. The front cover of the magazine focuses on representing young women. The main image shows a girl with quite a serious expression on her face. Her posture suggests that she is somewhat rebellious/ doesn’t care. The clothes worn in the image represent the music that the magazine is associated with. The masthead ‘heart broken but ready to rock’ suggest some vulnerability, taking the girl out of the rebellious form that she is in in the image allowing people to relate to her and to engage with it.
  5. -NME is the longest published and most respected music weekly in the world.-Kerrang magazine is the world's largest weekly music mag.
  6. The audience of my magazine will be male and female and will target both of them in different waysThe magazine will be open for anyone to read but the niche market will be aged between 18/25The magazines content will be focused around indie/punk/rock music so the audience of the magazine will be interested in this type of musicThe magazine is a music magazine so the audience of it will have and interest and be influenced by music
  7. The front cover is aesthetically pleasing. Red has been used to stand out and catch the readers eye, attracting them to the magazine. The article address the audience in quite a formal manor but there are still some colloquialisms which allow the reader to engage and relate to it.In a questionnaire I asked questions such as ‘which magazine cover do you prefer?’ and gave several options to choose from which allowed me to know what my target audience would be attracted to.
  8. -The masthead has been done in a brash type face. It has been done in read to keep a consistency throughout the magazine which is also seen on the t-shirt worn in the main image. Red is also an aggressive colour linking with some of the sub-genres of indie/rock/punk.-The mast head has been done in all capitols in a very bold type face which makes it dynamicThe cover lines have been put together at slightly varying, jarring angles to give the cover a slight sense of rebelliousness which compliments the genre of the magazine. The use of direct mode of address
