My media product uses many of the traditional codes and conventions that you would expect to see in a music magazine such as the content such as free things you get with the product, it also has things like album reviews which is another common feature in a magazine. I also placed things in traditional places such as the title as I believed it was a convention which I did not want to challenge. However ways in which I did challenge real media products would be the fact that I decided to not have my magazine consist of certain things others do for example on the front page not having a puff as I didn’t like them and instead wanted to go for a less is more approach and have more simplicity rather than having things placed everywhere, I much preferred to have an organised look to my magazine, however I did still want to incorporate features that did look somewhat just thrown in like on the double page spread on the main picture I also placed some text on it which was a quote to add the authenticity of the artist being displayed. I wouldn’t say my media product develops any media products further than they already are, I would think maybe some of the features included would be something that I personally would like to see more in a magazine like getting free posters but it is seen in many music magazines anyway.

My media products ideal demographic was late teenagers to young adults, the way it represents a particular social ground would be those who are influenced through hip-hop music, it represents them in not a negative way but in the anti establishment that hip- hop represented from its birth in South Bronx in the 1970’s. So I believe it represent that social ground in the way it has traditionally been represented through time and which is why I believed it represented my desired demographic in a good way for that particular social group.

I believe the media companies that would like to promote the hip-hop genre would be more likely to promote my product and publicise it though having it on sale in most newsagents, the reason I say that it is more likely to be a hip-hop orientated publication company is because my product is exclusive to that genre and I doubt would appeal to those who are not interested in hip-hop music. However I could also see a huge publication company could promote such a thing as it would add to their monopoly on all the different media products that they could promote at once.

The audience for my media product would more directed at a younger demographic probably aged between sixteen and mid-twenties, however I wrote my magazine in such a way that I believe that any fan of hip-hop would be interested in it is quite an old genre of music now so didn’t want to have an elitist aspect to my magazine and make it ageist. The main aspect of my magazine which relates to my audience would be the fact that it is purely a hip-hop magazine, so people that just like rock music would not be interested in the magazine at all so in that aspect it is exclusive to only people who would find pleasure in reading it, but I would like believe that as it is also a music based magazine that released news and reviews that plenty of different demographics would read it.

I attracted my audience through the style and language I used on my front page, I had some one who had quite a rebelious persona as my cover start would was smoking and had love bites on his neck which I believe would attract my selected them and address them through the image as possibly that is someone who they could envy at that moment in time. I also used different language on my front page my incorporating slang into the title with the use of “N’ Ting” which I thought would add to the image in which my magazine was trying to replicate in the sense that it used more colloquial language to appeal and address its intended audience.
- 7. I learnt how to use various technologies throughout creating my media product. Photoshop was a key aspect of my design work for my media product with the ability to manipulate and edit the design itself as well as the images that I imported in. Another good technology that I got to use was the camera itself so that was a good hardware technology I got to use. Another piece of software I was able to use was Quark which I used to write the text content for all my pages and then imported into Photoshop where I then placed accordingly.
- 8. Looking back at my preliminary I can see its clearly evident that I have learnt how to utilise software much better for my design work and used many more of its capabilities for example using brushes was something I used a lot for my final design. I also believe due to the entire workload as a whole project I learnt to organise files in a much better and efficient way which was key to keeping all my work under control and making sure I could find files when I had to upload them to my blog. I also believe after doing more extensive research I was able to follow some codes and conventions off other magazines which was key to my final layout design.
