One man's life is thrown into turmoil by picking up a telephone in this
claustrophobic thriller. Stu Shepard is a brash, cynical, and self-centered
public relations man who juggles a busy career with both a wife, Kelly,
and a mistress, Pamela. Stu steps into a phone booth on a busy New
York street to make a call to Pamela without Kelly being the wiser, but as
soon as Stu hangs up, the phone begins to ring. Curious, Stu picks it up -
- and a stranger on the other end informs him that if he hangs up the
phone, he'll be shot. The red dot of an infrared rifle scope convinces Stu
that the caller means business, and when another man tries to make his
way into the booth, he's shot mere inches from Stu, calling the attention
of the police. Captain Ramey naturally assumes that Stu was the killer,
as Stu struggles to find a way to convince the police of what's happening
before more lives are lost, without leaving the booth and putting his own
life on the line.
Conventions Of A Thriller
 the one way to link it to standard conventions is to say
that you hear and see the story from the killers point of
view, you are made to feel sorry for the male
protagonist and that you are told a story with the use
of flashback and quick passed editing. otherwise the
this film is unlike most thriller movies and avoids the
main conventions and may even not be classed as
thriller but psychological thriller as it plays with your
mind rather than shows you like a conventional
  thriller.
Camera
 Tracking and Pan shots is what’s commonly used in
the beginning of this thriller movie, particularly a
certain group of people who we should be interested in
 as the audience.
Sound
 This Movie had non diegetic music playing in the
background creating a sound bridge to create a certain
atmosphere. This Movie had used dialogue - this
usually gives us an insight to the characters motives or
their relationships with other characters in the film.
Silence and sonic exaggeration are 2 techniques used,
This is very thought provoking and does well to build
up tension, which seems to be a strong convention for
 thriller films.
Editing
 Jump cuts become a commonality during thriller films.
This is usually because multiple things are happening
that we’re unaware of and the jump cuts fill us in, they
allow us as the audience to make assumptions on what
the story or characters will be like. While the jump
cuts are built up, they eventually draw to a close,
however the cutting rate seems to increase which
ultimately seems to lead to a miniature climax of the
 introduction.
