2. Conventions Of Film Openings
The purpose of a film opening is to show action and begin the viewers interest so they
immediately get hooked in to the film. The film opening will clearly state the genre of the film,
likely to see the protagonist and antagonist.
• Most film openings are around 2 minutes long, however major blockbusters will possibly
last to 5 minutes.
• Introduce key characters, protagonist, antagonist, sidekick etc…
• Introduce pre plot or beginning of the narrative
• Key credits such as production company

3. What different types of
categories of title sequences are
there?Discrete: separately edited sequences that are apart from the film. This helps to get the audience
into the mood of the film. The discrete title sequence doesn’t inform clearly what the film will actually
be about, instead they use screen shots of pictures on objects, symbols to create little clues and
plots and possibly seeing a form of irony within the whole of the film.

Narrative: The title sequence comes together in a narrative of a story line. This gets the audience to
be aware of what the film will be about and have a clear understanding of the setting or even the
characters.

4. Credits over a blank screen: This is simply just an appearance of the credits being
shown on a blank screen. It is very simple to do and it doesn’t get the audience
captivated enough about what the film will be about.

What kind of fonts and colours are used?
The font styles being used are very bold, written in block letters and all written in capital letters. This enhances a clear, visual
understanding from the audience to know what the credits are talking about. The colours used show that the block letters are
coloured in bright colours of: blue, pink, orange, green. However, different colours are shown when a different credit appears.
What is their relationship with the images we see behind them?
The relationships with the images and the text is that the surrounding of the college is very bright and youthful. Every
student’s clothing are displayed with all different types of colours, the font and colours show the similarities it and conveys a
‘child like’ image and the types of personalities. Also, the colours of the text and images create a fun, hectic environment a
college setting is like.
What does the choice and style tell us about the genre and tone of a film?
The different, bright colours and the bold texts could present strong characters and loud, troublesome situations that either the
main character or other characters would get into. The colours could convey a lot of action, ideas, consequences and
resolutions.

7. Trap
What kind of fonts and colours are used?
The kind of font being used is “Dripping Marker” and this supports the genre of a horror/ slasher film. The font makes the
surroundings to look even more creepy and mysterious. The colour is a complete contrast to Mean girls as the credits don’t
change colour; a consistent use the colour- red, shows a lack of happiness in the locations/ atmosphere.
