This document lists details for three recipients of the Medal of Honor: 1. John Babcook received it for his actions as a 1st Lieutenant in the 5th US Cavalry during an Indian War campaign in Spring Creek, Nebraska in 1869 where he fought off a larger Native American force while encouraging his men. 2. Ulysses G. Buzzard received it as a Corporal in the 17th US Infantry for gallantly rescuing wounded soldiers under heavy fire from the enemy in El Canex, Cuba during the Spanish-American War in 1898. 3. Alexander R. Skinker received it posthumously as a Captain in the 138th Infantry, 35th Division for personally leading an attack on machine

• While serving with a scouting column, this
officer's troop was attacked by a vastly superior
force of Indians. Advancing to high ground, he
dismounted his men, remaining mounted himself
to encourage them, and there fought the Indians
until relieved, his horse being wounded.

4. Alexander R. Skinker

• Unwilling to sacrifice his men when his company as
held up by terrific machine gun fire from iron pill boxes
in the Hindenburg Line, Capt. Skinker personally led an
automatic rifleman and a carrier in an attack on the
machine guns. The carrier was killed instantly, but
Capt. Skinker seized the ammunition and continued
through an opening in the barbed wire, feeding the
automatic rifle until he too was killed.
