2. The Georgia Association of State Facility
Administrators (GASFA) Innovations
Awards program was established in 2009
to recognize outstanding achievement by
a state facility organization in establishing
an innovative new program or improving
an existing program.
McKenney's, Inc. in collaboration with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation
(GBI) recently won the GASFA innovation award for the work done on GBI’s
water capture and well project.

3. GBI monitored water use at its Headquarters in Decatur for a few years
3-year analysis of findings from water bills
Summary of the Water Capture and Well Project
• Average monthly water usage – 370,000 gal/month
• Usage for a typical hot month (August) – 1,000,000 gal/month
• Baseline usage (based on winter months) – 140,000 gal/month
All water usage above the baseline was attributed to cooling tower
make-up water and, to a lesser extent, irrigation.

Drill a well to supply cooling tower and
irrigation needs
Provide cisterns to:
• Fill up at night
• Supply water during the day
Additional Water Opportunities
Capture condensate water from air handlers
in the Annex Building
Capture rainwater from roof of the Annex
Building

5. This reduces not only the GBI's utility budget but also its demand on the
already stressed water supply in the Atlanta metro area.
