1. Mcdonalds Commercial
Thi s is the fourth radio commercial /advert I have looked at individual ly and I real ly l ike i t – not jus t be ca us e i t’s
McDona l d’s …
It’s re ally l ively e ven at the beginning, there isn’t just one voi ce talking there’s a bunch of voices both female a nd male a nd
a l l different accents, i t starts with ta lking about i t’s too cold or they’re too ti red or they’re hung over and they’re rushing so
the y s a y they’ll ge t a breakfast or a l atte to keep them going a nd I immediately ge t the i de a tha t i t’s a bout McDona l d’s
breakfasts and only breakfasts. In the background there is a music track playing that i s jolly but it al so sounds l ike bel l s ,
maybe Christmas bells? That could symbolise i t’s nearly Chri stmas as well as them s aying it’s cold outsi de . The y us e good
techniques because we can all relate to being tired in the mornings and not wanting to get out of our cosy bed after being
out al l night at a pub or a works do, so we think it’s the best bet to go to McDonald’s and have a lovely breakfas t to wake
us up before we start our day of shopping, taking kids to school, going college etc. I like the alliteration they use when th ey
s a y ‘i t’s chilly, i cicles, cold toes’ because they’re all re lating to the we a the r or tempe ra te outs i de , a nd the n the n thre e
di fferent people refer to McDonald’s a s ‘mc d’s ’ ‘ma cca dona l dos ’ a nd i t’s funny the whol e a dve rt i s funny a nd i t’s
pe rs uasive because they’re ma king you aware McDonald’s is a happy place a nd you woul dn’t wa nt to go a nywhe re e l s e
whe n s tarting your morning a nd not wanting to get out of bed to go i nto the cold, but it’s worth i t be ca us e you ca n ge t a
lovely latte or breakfas t to warm you up.
Then they advertise what you can get from McDonalds in the morning when they say ‘I’ll get a bacon roll with brown sauce
or ke tchup, hash brown or porri dge’ then they also include that you can go through the drive thru at McDona l d’s i f you
ca n’t be bothered to ge t out of your work van or car. Of course they include the important details, that the breakfas t runs
every morning but only ti ll 10:30am which is s mart but if they wouldn’t of a dded tha t i n the re a t the e nd i t woul dn’t of
been as good as an advert because you could get there at 10:35am a nd be like oh s o the a dve rt l e ft tha t de ta i l out I’m
goi ng to re port that… I re ally l ike the way this adve rt is structure d because the people speak in a che e ry pe rs ua s i ve tone
and say if you were ti red and in bed i t would immediately wake you up and after the advert i s fini shed i t would mos t
de fi nitely make you want to go a nd ge t a McDonald’s breakfast, i t’s actually re ally cl eve r how i t’s a l l put toge the r a nd i t
makes me think all of these people are friends but are in different si tua ti ons a nd wa nti ng McDona l d’s , i t’s re a l l y cute
be ca use before the a dvert comes to a n e nd they s ay ‘I’ll need a latte ’ ‘ca ppucci no’ ‘to ke e p mys e l f s hoppi ng’ ‘ki s s i ng’
‘cuddl i ng my dog’.
Overal l, listeners get everything that they want in this 30 second ra dio a dverti s eme nt, the y ge t i nforme d tha t the re ’s a
dri ve thru that you can go to i f you didn’t know that already, tha t the breakfast i s onl y on ti l l 10:30 a nd no l a ter or the y
don’t s erve you (actually the y missed that vi tal i nformation out) . They tell you a few things that you can get from there
i ncl uding breakfast stuff and choices of coffee’s to wake you up, I think a l ot of people will enjoy this commercial be ca us e
i t’s fri endly a nd it ca n also cheer a person up and make s omeone’s day with introducing pe opl e to the l ove l y Ma cci e D’s
breakfas t!
