The Case
• Susie Davis owns a company called Balloons Aloha and are in need
to fill balloons with helium and assembling them into certain
configurations for six major parties. Since all of her customer jobs
need to use the same helium tank Susie is trying to determine what
would be the best single way to process the jobs. (Collier & Evans,
2014)

SPT means shortest processing time. The rule allows jobs to

Recommendations
• Adopt the SPT rule for single-resource sequencing
problems;
EDD rule: • An examination of the alternative to SPT
which is the Earliest Due Date rule (EDD) will
possibly reinforce our recommendation of
the SPT rule for single-resource sequencing
problems

Conclusion
For all three performance criteria (Flow Time, Lateness,
Tardiness) using EDD, the averages are much higher than
they would be using SPT rule. So, as mentioned above, the
efficiency in the SPT rule is time saving, reduces cost and
adds to overall business revenue growth.
