In a faraway land of
Matematika Kingdom,
there lived a wise ruler
named King Aequus
One day, as he was
walking along his
castle, he thought of
something.
“Hmmmm, I am not getting any
younger. Maybe this is now the
right time to let my sons handle the
things I govern.”
So he gave his older son 7,000 hectares of
farmland on the left side of the castle and 2,000 hectares
on the right side of the castle to his younger son plus a
big farm alongside the river.
Then the King realized something, “I remember
that those two farms are equal when I inherit it from
my father. However, I still want to find out how wide
that farm alongside the river is. What should I do?”
7000 hectares
2000 hectares
+ farm along side the river
He announced his
problem to the whole
Kingdom and promised
that whoever will help
him will become one of
his royal and trusted
knights.
Who is the main
character in the story?
What qualities does he
have?
What is his problem?
The king decided to give
his two sons an equal share of
his Land. However he still
wants to find out how wide the
farm alongside the river.
Can we help him?
Do you know how?
Our goal is to find the weight of the coins inside
the pack by balancing the scale.
Hint: You can move coins from one side to
another in order to isolate the packed coins.
“Hurray! Thank you
for helping me with
my problem. Now, I
will do as I said.
But before that,
there is something
that I want to
confess. “
Even Long ago, I was
already loved by our people.
My former right-hand man, a
mage envied me for this so
he turned my beloved
Queen to stone.
He said that in order for him to bring our
Queen back to life, I have to offer all of our
people to be his slaves. The people and our
queen, they are equally important to
me…Instead of choosing, can you please help
me find the antidote for our queen?
“In your presence, I
can sense a big
hope.
So please, help
me. Help me bring
our queen back”
“I know someone who can
help and train you. His
name is Gildart. He’s a
friend of mine and he lives
in a forest. I’ll give you a
map to find him. “
“So you are the
brave warriors the king
is talking about. The
mage is said to be a
master of trickery and
deceit and in order for
you to defeat him, you
must solve his riddles.”
“Luckily, I have
here two magical scrolls
which you need to learn
to withstand the dark
mage’s tricks.”
Addition Equation – an equation
involving the sum of a number and a
variable
Subtraction Property of Equality
“Subtracting the same number from each
side of an equation produces a new
equation having the same solution as the
original.”
x + a = b -------x + a – a = b – a
x + 5 = 11
Subtraction Equation – an equation
involving the difference between a
variable and a number.
Addition Property of Equality
“Adding the same number on each side
of an equation produces a new
equation having the same solution as
the original.”
x – a =b ---------x –a + a = b +a
x – 7 = 10
“Before you go to the mage’s cave.
I want to test your readiness.
Answer my questions as a proof
that you’re strong enough to fight
the dark mage.”
What is the difference between
addition equations from
subtraction equations?
Why do we need to have things
equally?
Well done, brave
warriors. Now, go and
defeat the dark mage!
