This presentation provides an overview of maternal mortality in Bangladesh. It defines maternal mortality as deaths related to pregnancy, childbirth, or within 42 days of termination. Globally, an estimated 294,000 women died during childbirth in 2017, with higher rates in low- and middle-income countries. In Bangladesh, the maternal mortality rate was 174 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2020, decreasing from 600 deaths per 100,000 in 1975. The main causes of maternal death in Bangladesh include postpartum hemorrhage, infection, early marriage, poverty, and lack of access to quality healthcare. Addressing maternal mortality requires improving healthcare access, education, socioeconomic conditions, and empowering women's decisions about their health.
