Mary Shelley was an English novelist born in 1797 who wrote Frankenstein, considered an early work of science fiction. She was the daughter of William Godwin and Mary Wollstonecraft, and married the Romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley. In 1820 while living in Italy, Mary Shelley wrote the verse drama "Midas" in blank verse, though it was not published until 1992 as her husband Percy contributed two lyric poems to it and she unsuccessfully tried having it published in English magazines in 1830.
