- 2. • He wasa Slovak painter and illustrator. • He is regarded as the founder of Modernist Slovak art in 20th century. • Martin Benko was born on September 21, 1888 in Kostolište in the west of Slovakia in the region called Zahorie. • He got the title National Artist. He is buried in the National Cemetery in Martin.
- 3. Benka's ornamental stylewas influenced by folk art. In his paintings he displayed Slovak nature, clouds, plains , fields and hills and also people. He liked to show people at work. Benka visited many regions where people lived simply, in communion with nature.
- 4. With his paintingshe expressed love, respect and admiration to Slovakia, its nature and people.
