Marie Curie was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1867 to educator parents and excelled academically despite her family's financial struggles. She moved to Paris in 1881 and married physicist Pierre Curie in 1895, collaborating with him to discover the elements polonium and radium through their research on uranium radiation. Marie Curie was the first woman to become a professor at the University of Paris and received Nobel Prizes in both Physics and Chemistry, making her the only woman to win two Nobels. She continued her groundbreaking work with x-rays to help wounded soldiers in WWI but ultimately died in 1934 from prolonged exposure to radiation during her research career.

3. In 1981 Marie moved to Paris and attended the Sorbonne. She met and married Pierre Curie in 1895, a physics professor at the University of Paris.
4. The Curies began further research on newly discovered uranium and its invisible radiations much like those in X-rays. They worked through Henri Becquerel’s findings in depth. They were able to find other substances found in radiation and isolated them individually. As a result they discovered elements polonium and radium
5. Marie Curie took her husband’s physic’s professor position as well as become head of the Physics Laboratory at the Sorbonne, being the first woman to do so. She shared the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1903 with her husband and Henri Becquerel She was later awarded a second Nobel Prize for chemistry in 1911
6. As a result of Curie’s findings, she developed x-ray machines which served to aid wounded soldiers during WWI Marie Curie passed in 1934 due to pernicious anemia developed from extensive exposure to radiation.
7. Marie Curie was the first and only woman to receive two Nobel Prizes. She made a remarkable breakthrough in the field of science that influences many of the research we conduct today.
