This document discusses the four main types of printmaking: relief printing, intaglio, planography (lithography), and stencil (serigraphy). Relief printing involves cutting away areas of a surface like wood or linoleum to create a raised image that transfers ink. Intaglio cuts into a metal or plexiglass surface to create grooves that hold ink. Lithography uses the properties of grease and water to transfer an image from a flat stone or plate. Serigraphy uses a stencil made of paper, fabric or other material with cut out designs to push ink through and print an image.
