The document describes a study comparing the morphology of young and old mangrove salt glands. The study aims to observe the structure of salt glands and their maturation in leaves. The hypothesis is that young mangrove salt glands have a morphology better suited for salt secretion compared to old mangrove salt glands. Samples of young and mature mangrove leaves containing salt glands were collected from Salinas, Puerto Rico and examined under microscopy using various techniques after fixation, dehydration, embedding, sectioning, mounting and staining. Preliminary results show that salt glands in young mangrove tissue are larger in size than those in mature tissue.
