MANAGING YOUR BOSS
(A Micromanager)
Presented By:
HASSAN MAQBOOL
Background
 I am a fresh graduate.
 I have done Textile engineering.
 I have joined Nishat Textile Mills a year ago.
 I am appointed as an Assistant Spinning Manager.
Job Responsibilities
 My job responsibilities as described to me at the time of joining are basically
related to operations management.
 I have to work in any of the three departments which are:
 Production
 Quality
 Maintenance
 Department is to be allocated to me by my unit head.
Starting Period
 When I joined I had no experience.
 So I was not given any responsibility.
 I was just asked to spend a month in each department.
 Learn their routines and work processes.
 My boss used to ask me work related issues to test me and I was able to give
satisfactory answers.
 After three months I asked my job to give me some responsibility.
 He said to spend more time learning.
 Three further months passed and I have no real responsibility yet.
 I am now frustrated of being so unproductive.
My Boss
 I observed my boss closely and found out that he is a micromanaging boss.
 He do not trust anyone.
 Likes do every thing himself.
 Gets into tiniest details.
 Intervenes in task after he has assigned them.
 Sits late hours himself.
 Wants to make even minor decisions.
How I Handled
 To manage such a boss some of the techniques to be used are:
1. Go to him and ask him for work.
2. Listen carefully to what ever he says.
3. Show results of what work he has assigned.
4. Take him in loop before trying anything new. Ask for his suggestions.
5. Win his trust by being honest and speaking the truth.
6. Meet him frequently and discuss problems with him.
7. Be punctual and reliable. You should be present when he need you.
8. Follow the rules made by your boss.
9. Flex yourself to your boss's management style.
How I Handled (Cont.)
9. Be an overachiever. Show your boss that you deserve his or her trust and
that you don't need to be told every little thing you need to do. Show him your
technical skills.
10.Learn about your boss as much as you can by discussing with other people and
by your own observation.
11.Provide him updates.
12.Anticipate what he wants.
Conclusion
 The key to surviving a micromanager is to
 Determine a mutually agreed upon balance between your manager’s need for
information and involvement, and your need for freedom to be productive.
 Now after 1 year I am working under the same boss, but now he trusts me.
