3. Types of malnutrition
• There are 3 types mainly
• Underweight - an underweight person is a type of person whose body
weight is considered too low to be healthy.
• Stunting - children are defined as stunted if their height- for- age is
more then 2 SD( standard Deviation) below the WHO Child Growth
Standards median.
• Wasting- Low weight-for-Height is known as wasting . wasting referred
two types-
• MAM- ( Moderate acute malnutrition) is defined as a weight –for-age
between -3 SD and -2SD Z- scores
• SAM- (sever acute malnutrition)-is defined by a very low weight for
height below -3SD scores. they may also have nutritional oedema.
