Making props is an important backstage job for stage performances that requires crafting items that fit the production appropriately. Props must match the time period, function, color and materials described in the work. They also need to be recognizable from a distance so audience members don't have to guess their purpose. Costumes similarly help audiences relate to characters by giving them personality and setting the atmosphere of a show or film.

3. The prop must fit the production. For example it must be of the right time period, look and function required by the chosen work. It must appear to do the job its meant for, fit in terms of colour and be of the right materials. The prop should be recognisable from a distance.
