Making Props! Renee Bailey
Making props for set designs for stage performances: such as set design, set building, costume, lighting, sound etc is one of many backstage jobs. Props On Stage! Props are necessary for most plays, musicals and often for other things like singers, comedians, speakers etc.
The prop must fit the production. For example it must be of the right time period, look and function required by the chosen work. It must appear to do the job its meant for, fit in terms of colour and be of the right materials. The prop should be recognisable from a distance. The people at the back of the audience shouldn’t have to guess or be told what it is. So if it isnt clear in the way that it is being used then it should be clear in its appearance. Top Tips

Costume! Costumes are used to give the character his personality and makes it easier for the audience to relate and imagine who the person is supposed to be. It also creates the atmosphere of the whole show/film.
