My Home Washington DC is the Federal Territory that I call home, it is on the east coast of America, bordering both Maryland and Virginia. Previously it was inhabited by Native Americans before the European settlers came. The Native Americans lived by the Anacostia River and in other areas near there, when the European settlers came, they fought over grazing rights. In the end they built a fort and two years later, the Conoy (Piscataway) left west to the Point of Rocks in western Maryland. Many different tribes of Native American like the Nacotchtank , Patawomeck and Conoy lived on various sides of the federal territory Washington DC is also known as the District of Columbia after Christopher Columbus Native American Tribe Map Christopher Columbus
Historical Factors Washington DC was founded in 1790 It was planned out/designed to be a beautiful city Designed by Major Pierre Charles L’Enfant at approximately 1791 The city was and still is, centered around the government An interesting fact is that Captain John Smith (Pocahontas's husband), explored there in the early 1600s along with other British soldiers! They came there to explore some of the Chesapeake Bay Warehouses and wharves were built in the early settlements there, so the settlement grew very quickly. Major Pierre Charles L’Enfant- a French man Captain John Smith Washington DC Plan
Environmental F actors It is on the Potomac River and there are the marshlands next to the Potomac River Bordered by cultivated flatlands to the south and east, ideal for crops Gentle hills found to the north of Washington DC Rock Creek--coming from the northwestern plateau and into the Potomac Average elevation point -46 meters Highest point of elevation about 125 meters (410 feet) northwest in Tenleytown. It is an enclave of western Maryland, fully within the Atlantic Coastal Plain Abundant and varying in species of wildlife Potomac River connects with largest estuary in the USA (Chesapeake Bay). Many cherry blossom trees grow there, they also celebrate the National Cherry Blossom Festival to commemorate the Japanese cherry trees that Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo sent to Washington DC in 1912.
Statistical Factors A population of 599,657 as of 2009 Life expectancy: 72 years old Center of African American Culture, African Americans take up more than half of the residents Port for shipments of tobacco and goods of colonial Maryland, assisting in trade African American Civil War Statue
