RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
2012 - Present
Georgia State University, Developmental Neuropsychology Lab
Research Assistant (part-time, paid position)
Supervisor: Diana L. Robins, Ph.D.
Project: Improving the early detection of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) with emphasis on the validation of a revised
Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M-CHAT) (-R)
 Filmed diagnostic evaluations and screenings, entered data utilizing FileMaker, recruited participants, and
administered the Screening Tool for Autism in Toddlers (STAT)
 Scored screening tools and diagnostic measures related to social development and cognitive function
 Assisted undergraduates on research project development and presentations, trained lab members on data entry,
statistical analysis, and assessment administration
Project: Correlational investigation of atypical eye contact as a valid early predictor of developmental trajectories for
toddlers diagnosed with ASD and other developmental delays. Additional follow-up investigation was performed to assess
this at toddlers’ 2-year and 4-year old evaluation.
 Devised independent correlational study and follow-up involving literature reviews, data analysis through SPSS, and
composition of oral and poster presentations
Project: Pilot fMRI study investigating a novel tool, Dynamic Interacting Shape Clips (DISC), to assess socialcognition in
typical young adults. Supplemental fMRI investigation of the DISC’s utility in assessing social cognition in a sample of
young adults with an ASD diagnosis.
 Administered and scored assessment measures,pre-screening measures, training, and pre- and post-experimental tasks
 Prepared of participants for neuroimaging in fMRI scanner
 Devised quantitative coding scheme for participant DISC narratives
 Contributed to the on-going authoring of a manuscript for pilot study data
Project: Graduate student’s dissertation investigating the validity and utility of two novel tasks of social attribution, which
aim to provide a widely accessible and applicable means for identifying ASD risk in toddlers.
 Administered the Puppet Attribution Task (PAT) and Tablet Attribution Task (TAT) to toddlers
 Assessed the “looking time” using various technologies; video camera and recording software
 Observed and recorded behaviors of interest
 Provided guardians with feedback regarding the child’s performance on the tasks
2013 – Present
Georgia State University, Clinical Psychology Department
Research Assistant
Supervisor: Akihiko Masuda, Ph. D.
Project: Investigation of a novel construct, Body Image Flexibility, in explaining disordered eating behaviors among
nonclinical undergraduate students. Title: Body image flexibility moderates the association between disordered eating
cognition and disordered eating behavior in a non-clinical sample of women: A cross-sectional investigation
 Utilized SPSS for quantitative data analysis
 Conducted literature reviews to contributed knowledge to poster presentations and published manuscript
 Contributed to drafting and editing presentations and manuscripts (see in Publications section)
 Entered and analyzed data for self-report measures
Project: Case study exploring the effectiveness of an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) rationale for treating
emotional eating (Spring 2014). Case study exploring the effectiveness of an ACT rationale for treating Purging Disorder
(Fall 2014).
 Reviewed video footage from counseling sessions related to the study
Makeda Moore
 Assisted graduate student in data entry and analysis and transcribing qualitative data
 Contributed to drafting and editing presentations (poster and workshop) and a published manuscript
Project: Investigated the effectiveness of a Cognitive Defusion strategy in altering the stimulus function of self-referential
body dissatisfaction thoughts
 Administered pre- and post-experimental assessments and an experimental training and rationale to participants
 Assisted in data entry and analysis of assessment measures:GHQ-12, BSI-18, MAC-R,and MAAS
 Assisted in co-authorship of a manuscript for publication, poster presentation, and revising experimental protocols
2010
Johns Hopkins University, Institute for NanoBio Technology – Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU)
Research Assistant
Supervisor: Sharon Gerecht,Ph. D.
Project: Investigated the differentiation of embryonic and pluripotent stem cells into vascular lineages. Several growth
factors and growth media were manipulated to best study the vasculogenesis potential of the stem cells.
 Assisted graduate student with tasks pertaining to stem cell culture maintenance: thawing and seeding, counting,
collecting and cleaning stem cells in a sterile environment
 Utilized dyeing and mounting techniques to visualize cells through Ultraviolet imaging
 Utilized RT-PCR,FACS assay,cell culture techniques, media/agar preparation
 Designed poster presentation based on promoting factors of in vitro vasculogenesis
PROFESSIONAL TRAINING
Trained in the administration and scoring ofseveral psychological measures
 Administered screening tools: STAT, PAT,TAT
 Trained to score check: M-CHAT-R,Mullen Scales of Early Learning (MSEL), Autism Diagnostic Observation
Schedule (ADOS), Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS), Behavioral Assessment System for Children (BASC),
Diagnostic Analysis of Nonverbal Accuracy (DANVA)Delis–Kaplan Executive Function System (D-KEFS) and
Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence (WASI)
 Delis–Kaplan Executive Function System (D-KEFS) Card Sorting task and Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence
(WASI) Vocabulary and Matrix Reasoning subtests
 Empathy Quotient, Autism Quotient, and Interpersonal Reactivity Index
 Oriented participants for fMRI scanner and coached participants through a state-of-the-art MR simulator and motion
detection software used to increase compliance with MRI demands
 Co-developed coding scheme and scoring of verbal narratives
 Administration of clinical training and rationale for ACT based therapy studies (e.g., defusion)
 Scored General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12), Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI-18), Mizes Anorectic Cognitions
Questionnaire-Revised (MAC-R),Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS),Acceptance and Action
