This is a hospital for children who have sustained burn injuries. Psychology interns provide
psychosocial support for adjustment to the burn injury to the patients and their families. The
patients seen are children whose ages range from newborn to 18-years old. Provide services in
Spanish and in English.
Work with a multidisciplinary treatment team of MD, PhD, RN, OT, PT, LCSW, and
CCLS
Assist in orienting new psychology interns, medical students rotating through
psychology and psychiatry, and visiting professionals
Treatment:
o Conduct clinical intake interviews
o Provide family therapy, individual therapy, play therapy, and group therapy
o Treat patients on inpatients units and outpatient services
o Managing patient’s pain, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma symptoms, itch,
behavioral problems, body image, and adjustment to burn injury
o Monitor suicide ideation, conduct risk assessments
o Provide procedural support during rehabilitation, dressing changes, and tub
rooms
o Facilitate mindfulness exercises with and without virtual reality

o Administer Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and the Children Depression
Inventory (CDI) assessment
o Conduct Mini Mental Status assessment for patients who sustained brain injury
o Administer Glasgow Coma Scale
