Development and Testing of a Conceptual Framework for Asking about IntoxicationChristine Maddern (Market & Social Researcher)
This document summarizes research on developing a new approach to measuring intoxication levels in surveys. Through qualitative research, the study identified different terms used to describe stages of intoxication. It then tested a quantitative survey approach where participants rated intoxication behaviors on a scale and chose their own term for "losing balance." Results showed people understood and were comfortable with this approach, seeing it as better than using predetermined terms. The research aims to develop more valid measures of perceptions around intoxication to help shift alcohol culture. TDS provides wireless and wireline telecommunications services through its subsidiaries U.S. Cellular and TDS Telecom. In 2004, both subsidiaries achieved growth and drove profitable expansion. TDS Telecom increased its access lines by 2% and revenues by 2% while expanding high-speed data and long distance services. Digital advertising continued shifting to online platforms, while e-commerce sales grew 12% due to price and convenience. The rise of smartphones and tablets also fueled increased content consumption across various devices.

Facebooks new model
Facebook is developing new advertising products to prove the effectiveness of ads on its platform and justify its high valuation. Its "Expanded Premium Ad" incorporates social elements like displaying if a user's friends have liked the advertised content. Facebook is analyzing user data to show advertisers which types of ads and campaigns are most effective. It has partnered with Nielsen to develop new metrics like gross rating points to help advertisers evaluate online ad campaigns similarly to television. While some brands remain skeptical, Facebook aims to demonstrate advertising can boost the viral spread of user content about brands.
