Real Time Interactive Queries IN HADOOP: Big Data Warehousing MeetupCaserta
During the Big Data Warehousing Meetup, we discussed options for enabling real-time/interactive queries to support business intelligence type functionality on Hadoop. Also, Hortonworks provided a deep-dive demo of Stinger! You can access that slideshow here: http://www.slideshare.net/CasertaConcepts/stinger-initiative-hortonworks

No doubt Visualization of Data is a key component of our industry. The path data travels since it is created till it takes shape in a chart is sometimes obscure and overlooked as it tends to live in the engineering side (when volume is relevant), an area where Data Scientist tend to visit but not the usual Web/Marketing Data Analyst. Nowadays the options to tame all that journey and make the best of it are many and they don't require extensive engineering knowledge. Small or Big Data, let's see what "Store, Extract, Transform, Load, Visualize" is all about.
For the January 2015 Software User Assistance Conference, this session covers single-sourcing and cloud-sourcing tips, as well as techniques for maximizing graphical appeal and automating graphic generation.
The next generation user experience should move to customer engagement zones along their preferred channels with desired action to outcome approaches. With scores of information ranging from inventory to inquiry, weather to warehouse alerts, product to promotion info at disposal, enterprise digitization can create value at every customer touch point. Attendees witnessed the manifestation of TCS’ Thought Leadership in the Game of Retail.
5 Things that Make Hadoop a Game Changer
Webinar by Elliott Cordo, Caserta Concepts
There is much hype and mystery surrounding Hadoop's role in analytic architecture. In this webinar, Elliott presented, in detail, the services and concepts that makes Hadoop a truly unique solution - a game changer for the enterprise. He talked about the real benefits of a distributed file system, the multi workload processing capabilities enabled by YARN, and the 3 other important things you need to know about Hadoop.

LinkedIn is the premiere professional social network with over 60 million users and a new user joining every second. One of LinkedIn's strategic advantages is their unique data. While most organizations consider data as a service function, LinkedIn considers data a cornerstone of their product portfolio.
To rapidly develop these products LinkedIn leverages a number of technologies including open source, 3rd party solutions, and some we've had to invent along the way.
This LinkedIn talk at the NYC Hadoop Meetup held 3/18 at ContextWeb focused on best practices for quickly uncovering patterns, visualizing trends, and generating actionable insights from large datasets.
Advanced Analytics Implementations at EA scaleAni Lopez
Designing and managing advanced analytics implementations for 35+ digital properties, across more than 10 different production teams, is not an easy task. It became even more challenging when the analytics team at Electronic Arts (EA) was required to migrate from Adobe Site Catalyst to Google Analytics Premium to Google Universal Analytics, all within the span of 18 months. Of course, all of this had to be done while still keeping pace with the company’s frenzied schedule for publishing blockbuster games, each of which requires new sites and countless marketing campaigns. See how we used Tealium iQ™ tag management system to achieve our objectives.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

8. Hadoop at bol.com
• On Premise Production cluster = 35 nodes
• 30+ IT teams
• Several Business Teams
9. But lot of challenges…
• Lack of flexibility:
• Version HDP
• Christmas’ peak
• Security issues
• Who likes Kerberos?
• No PII
• We’re overloaded:
• Sysops
• YARN
16. Improving test coverage
• Not only for ETL migration
• Also for “integration” test
• Testing tools:
• Unit tests: quick, automated
• Hive_compared_bq: huge tests, capturing outliers
18. Yet another BigData processing tool…

20. Why Data Quality?
• For IT: better understanding of data
• See & “feel” data
• Help before developing
• Stats: outliers, skew
• For Business:
• Before: 1st
analysis better Jiras
• After: validate with stats
22. Security in our Hadoop
• Kerberos issues:
• Integration Java libraries
• REST interfaces not secured
• Not encrypted
• No strong audit
• No strict HDFS, HBase, Hive permissions
23. PII in BigQuery!
• Always encrypted: disk + network
• Serverless: patching on time
• No Kerberos
• Central access control
• Hide PII columns with views
• Advanced logging
31. Flexibility of Beam
• Easy for future migration:
• In our Hadoop
• In Google Cloud
• Or maybe Beam in Cloud = +
• Overhead of DataFlow = 2 mn, similar to Dataproc
• Flink = better metrics + debugging
32. Netherlands…
• Want to discover what it feels like living 4 meters

• Yes… We’re hiring!
