The Rise and Rise of HCPs' Social Networks - Focus on GCC RegionLen Starnes
Presentation given at the 5th Saudi eHealth Conference, Riyadh, 18 – 20 November 2014. The agenda includes: an update on the status of the continuing global expansion of HCPs’ social networks; a look at networks in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region; an overview of differentiating network characteristics; physicians’ usage patterns; impacts on national healthcare systems; and a case for the creation of a dedicated Saudi Arabian network to support the objectives of the country’s new healthcare reform.
The document presents information on a hy-wire car concept presented by students from Jaypee University of Engineering and Technology. The hy-wire car replaces the traditional internal combustion engine and mechanical linkages with an electric drive system powered by a hydrogen fuel cell stack. It has no pedals or instrument panel, with controls accessed through an X-Drive controller that can slide between the driver and passenger seats. The hy-wire car layout allows for flexible body styles and interior configurations. However, challenges remain in producing and storing hydrogen fuel economically and ensuring safety in an electronically-controlled vehicle.
NIDEC Automotive Motor Americas is a sales subsidiary of NIDEC Corporation in the Americas handling in-vehicle motors.
In recent years, progress has been made in energy-efficient and high added-value automobiles, with a dramatic increase in the numbers of motors utilized in each vehicle.
NIDEC Automotive Motor Americas provides electric power steering motors, DCT motors, ABS motors, motors for seat adjustment and cooling, and a full lineup of high-efficiency, high-performance brushless motors and brush motors.
NIDEC Automotive Motor Americas certainly has the motors you are looking for, so please feel free to inquire.
This document discusses drive by wire technology. It begins with an introduction and overview of the history and working principle. It then describes the different systems within drive by wire, including steer by wire, throttle by wire, and brake by wire. Each system replaces the traditional mechanical control systems with electronic sensors and actuators controlled by an engine control module. The advantages are more design flexibility, weight reduction, improved safety and performance, and potential for advanced driver assistance features. The document concludes by discussing future applications and trends toward more customizable control interfaces using drive by wire technology.
Social media: a catalyst for change (in afib patient associations)Len Starnes
This document discusses how social media can be used as a catalyst for change and advocacy. It outlines the benefits of social media for organizations, including increasing awareness, traffic, and positive perceptions. Popular social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and blogs are examined in the context of how patient associations can use them to monitor conversations, engage stakeholders, and spread information about atrial fibrillation and stroke. Challenges of integrating social media like resources, policies, and understanding success metrics are also covered.
Emergent hybrid medical society conferences: evidence of disruption; impact o...Len Starnes
Presentation first given at the 2015 Eyeforpharma Barcelona Conference; an update of a presentation given in 2013 on the emergent hybrid medical society physical/virtual conference format. Evidence of conference format disruption is presented based on the 2014 European Society of Cardiology Congress. The impact on the pharma industry is explored.
The document discusses Hy-wire technology, which uses a fuel cell instead of an internal combustion engine and drive-by-wire instead of mechanical linkages. A proton exchange membrane fuel cell powers the Hy-wire car by converting hydrogen and oxygen to electricity. The fuel cell stack provides over 90 kilowatts of power. An X-drive controller allows the driver to control speed, steering, and braking electronically. While offering benefits like efficiency and low emissions, challenges remain regarding hydrogen storage, safety, and cost before Hy-wire vehicles can be mass produced.
The HY-WIRE concept car uses hydrogen fuel cells instead of an engine or hydraulic systems. It has a fuel cell stack that powers an electric motor and uses drive-by-wire technology instead of mechanical linkages. The car has a central computer that controls acceleration via hand controls on either side of the driver interface, which uses LCD screens instead of mirrors. The hydrogen fuel is stored in composite cylinders and the fuel cells produce electricity through a chemical reaction with oxygen to power the vehicle without pollution.
Sensors and Data Management for Autonomous Vehicles report 2015 by Yole Devel...Yole Developpement
Multiple sensing technologies will ensure many market opportunities for Tier 1 players, Tier 2 players, and newcomers alike
Sensor technologies are a driving force in making fully autonomous vehicles a reality. Automakers are racing to develop safe self-driving cars, but this race is a distance run more than a sprint, where multiple automation stages will imply multiple sensors. Ultrasonic sensors, radars, and multiple cameras systems are already embedded in high-end vehicles -- and within 10 years, they could also include long-range cameras, LIDAR, micro bolometer and accurate dead reckoning. These devices will work concurrently and each technology will support another to ensure codependency and avoid concerns. Even though sensors are only part of the puzzle, their market opportunities are promising.
The document discusses different types of alternative fuel vehicles:
- Electric cars, which use batteries charged by plugging into the electrical grid, have no emissions but long charging times. Solar powered cars could charge from the sun but are not yet practical.
- Natural gas cars can use compressed natural gas instead of gasoline, reducing emissions but requiring new fueling infrastructure that is not widely available.
- Hybrid cars combine a gas engine with electric motors and batteries to improve fuel efficiency, but are currently more expensive than regular cars.
- The Toyota Prius is a popular hybrid model, and a future version may achieve over 100 miles per gallon. Solar powered and electric vehicles may be more practical future options as technology advances.

23 Things They Don’t Tell You About Capitalismdmlee01
This document summarizes a public lecture given by Professor Ha-Joon Chang on his book "23 Things They Don't Tell You About Capitalism". The lecture was chaired by Professor Robert Wade from the London School of Economics. Professor Chang's book outlines 23 observations that contradict conventional assumptions about free markets and capitalism. Some of the points made in the book include that there is no such thing as a free market, companies should not be run solely for their owners' interests, and making rich people richer does not necessarily make everyone else richer.
This document outlines 6 common mistakes in human thinking: 1) Preferring anecdotal stories over statistics, 2) Seeking to confirm rather than question our own ideas, 3) Underestimating the role of chance, 4) Misperceiving the world around us, 5) Oversimplifying complex issues, 6) Having inaccurate memories. It encourages the reader to become more skeptical and critical in their thinking.
The document summarizes a historical fiction novel titled "Ryoma Goes" published in Japan between 1963-1966. It was written by Ryotaro Shiba and tells the story of Sakamoto Ryoma, a lower-class samurai in 19th century Japan who helped overthrow the Tokugawa shogunate and advocated for imperial rule. The summary provides background information on Ryoma and the political context of the Tokugawa shogunate and the transition to imperial rule in Meiji era Japan.
Smartphone sales increased 24% in 2009 with the iPhone's market share nearly doubling. The document includes tables showing worldwide mobile terminal sales and 2009 second quarter smartphone market shares. It also references reports on the Android and iPhone app markets, with Android apps growing the fastest but the iPhone market remaining the largest. Facebook is reported to drive 44% of social sharing on the web.
