This document discusses the built-in filters of two eddy viscosity subgrid scale models used in large-eddy simulation (LES): the Smagorinsky model and the Schumann model. It presents the theoretical basis of LES filtering and equations. The study identifies the forms of the built-in filters associated with each model by varying a characteristic length scale in the models and analyzing the effective filter rendered by the simulations. The behavior of an equivalent Kolmogorov constant is also compared to theory. The results provide insight into how the modeling terms influence the filtering process and flow dynamics in LES without using explicit filtering.
