This document provides a summary of the Galerie House of Art and Design, featuring the work of several designers who were commissioned to reimagine rooms in a classic Shingle-style estate in Sag Harbor using art and design. Each designer selected artworks to inform their designs, choosing both collectible pieces and custom elements like hand-painted wallpaper. The kitchen features cabinetry, marble, and brass accents. A bedroom was transformed into a writer's retreat. The house is open to visitors through August 29.

Interior architecture is the practice of sensitively and innovatively redesigning an existing interior space, while respecting its historical value. As well as considering aesthetic design, interior architecture focuses on the functionality and material construction of interior spaces. It addresses structural elements like window and door placements, ventilation, heating and plumbing, as well as interior decoration.

I've been painting murals that are commissioned that are large in and around Bristol. The community mural movement, which began from the late 1960's, generated countless hundreds of large scale wall paintings in less than a decade. Every city had a few, although they were concentrated in major cities. These were sparked by the civil rights movement, labour movements, the Chicano movement, and community development programs. Hispanic muralists like Diego Rivera, Clemente Orozco, David Sequeiros, and Arnold Belkin affected content and the style of those murals. They were influenced by graffiti and from advertising artwork.

Hadj Ounis's most notable work is his sculpture titled "Metamorphosis." This piece showcases Ounis's mastery of form and texture, as he seamlessly combines metal and wood to create a dynamic and visually striking composition. The juxtaposition of the two materials creates a sense of tension and harmony, inviting viewers to contemplate the relationship between nature and industry.

alerie’s editorial team handpicked a group of uniquely talented designers
from across the country to bring to life a house that celebrates both art and
design. All known for their ability to incorporate high-caliber artwork into
livable spaces, these designers have enlivened a classic, Shingle-style estate
in Sag Harbor with their distinctive points of view and imaginative concepts
for how the ultimate collector would want to live in the Hamptons.
Collaborating with blue-chip galleries, each of these visionaries has
used art to inform and inspire the design decisions for their rooms—whether
selecting collectible pieces from today’s most sough-after makers or customiz-
ing elaborate hand-painted wallpaper. These ingenious touches and displays of
one-of-a-kind craftsmanship are what unquestionably make every single space
in the house a true work of art.
Best of all, the Galerie House of Art and Design is open to the public
through August 29, so you can experience the magic for yourself. Reserve
your tickets here, and see below for a glimpse inside.
To craft the dream kitchen, Bob Bakes of Bakes & Kropp
selected both flat- and glass-front cabinetry, rendered in a sooth-
ing blue shade, and top-of-the-line appliances from Fisher & Paykel. The
Cambria marble’s gentle wavelike veining adds to the beach-chic atmo-
sphere, while gleaming brass accents, including a striking custom range
hood, adds a sophisticated flair. A spacious island surmounted by sculptural
lighting fixtures from Circa offer plenty of prep space as well as a convivial
spot for casual entertaining.
Rayman Boozer of Apartment 48 Interior Design created an transportive junior pri-
mary bedroom suite where a writer can find endless inspiration at a Serena & Lily desk, surrounded
by furniture and objets d’art from Harbinger, Julian Chichester, and Tribute Goods. After a long
day, the room’s conjured occupant could unwind in a swoon-worthy Ferguson tub with fixtures by
Sherle Wagner International, then retire for the evening in the Savoir bed, letting the wall coverings
from Arte, Fromental, and S. Harris inspire tomorrow’s adventures.

enny Drue Baird, founder of the interior design
company Dessins in New York and Paris,
is known for her huntswoman’s knowledge
of French antiques and the Gallic flavor of
her projects. For a six-bedroom apartment
in a 1931 Manhattan building by the trophy
Sicilian-American architect Rosario Candela, she contributed a heavy
dose of Art Deco. The style was in keeping with the era in which the
brick-and-limestone tower was built, but not with the original interiors.
Those, Baird says, were “ripped back to the steel.”
Almost every detail, from the reclaimed wood floors to the
elaborate moldings, was a 21st-century concoction, much of it spring-
ing from her expert brain. “Certainly that would not have been in any
Candela building,” she says about the gold leaf on the living room
ceiling. Working with the New York architectural firm of Ferguson &
Shamamian, she cooked up not just that gleaming decorative touch,
but also the patterned marble floor for the entrance gallery that she
described as “a modernist take on a classic design”—wall niches lined
with tufted fabric and linear miles of trim.

“It’s almost impossible not
to have this house embody
New York City,” says Lee
Ledbetter. “The trick is
having it reflect the char-
acter and the spirit of the
city today”
with tufted fabric and linear miles of trim. Many of the furnishings are
Deco or Deco-inspired. And throughout the 6,000-square-foot space,
Deco-style crystal lighting sparkles like ice. And the art? That’s all
contemporary. The clients, a couple with young children, wanted an
apartment that was—in a nutshell—comfortable, young, and fun.
Baird obliged them with an up-to-date interpretation of the Art Deco
style—less flowery and more playful than many period models (she was
especially exuberant in her ceiling moldings). But vibrancy also comes
from the art the clients collected for their new home, much of which is
by living artists.
The entrance gallery, for example, contains a Deco-inspired
mahogany-and-shagreen table flanked by Moderne chairs. Above it is a
text-based artwork by the American artist Richard Prince that is a joke
about a fireman and a drunk. In the gilded living room, which features
velvety chaise lounges and tulip-shaped brass torchères, the centerpiece
is an Yves Klein coffee table with 3,000 sheets of gold leaf embedded in
glass. Over the original carved marble fireplace mantel is one of Pop Art
master Roy Lichtenstein’s stippled mirror paintings, while in a photo-
graph off to the side, Cindy Sherman lies on a bed clutching a hankie.
Almost every detail, from the reclaimed wood floors to the elabo-
rate moldings, was a 21st-century concoction, much of it springing from
her expert brain.
