Madrid is the capital city of Spain, located in central Spain. It is a dynamic city whose residents are called madrileños. The king of Spain, King Juan Carlos de Bordon, rules as a constitutional monarch with democratic governance. A notable landmark is the Plaza Mayor, an original 17th century building with nine arches that was originally used as a bullring and later a site of executions during the Spanish Inquisition. Madrid is famous as the setting of the novel Don Quixote by Miguel Cervantes and home to world-renowned art museums like the Prado. Local cuisine and a neighborhood known as Little Madrid are also highlights of the city.
