Indianhead Holsteins in Barron, Wisconsin owns 100 milking cows and grows crops including canola. In 2007, the farm began pressing canola seeds to produce straight vegetable oil for fueling its vehicles. This has helped the farm become energy self-sufficient and save over $2 per gallon on fuel. The farm also uses the resulting canola meal to supplement cows' diets, increasing their milk production. Two tractors and one semi truck now run solely on canola oil, with the goal of converting more vehicles to this renewable fuel source.
