This document discusses issues that arose in a group working on a songwriting project and how they overcame those issues. The group initially struggled to come up with a topic, but settled on gangs after a discussion. They then realized none were strong lyricists, but another member was and wrote half the song. When one member missed a rehearsal, the lyrics had changed, but working together they adapted the new ideas into the song.
2. Issues and Solutions
Issue:
-We struggled to come up with a topic to write lyrics for; everyone’s
minds went completely blank which was beginning to waste a lot of
time.
How we overcame the issue
- Luke came in and had a open discussion with us about how we all
felt about society and what issues we were facing. We started getting
into the topic of politics but once I mentioned how I felt about our
generation being involved in gangs that seemed to spark some
interest and that’s what we decided to come with.
3. Issues and Solutions
Issue:
- Once we settled on the topic we were going to discuss in our song, we realised
that none of our strengths were in writing lyrics which became another issue that
slowed down our process. So majority of our time slot that day went into the
development of chords which were going to be played on the piano and bass
How we overcame the issue:
- On the second rehearsal date we had, another member of our group was present,
who in our favour was extremely talented in song writing. Once she heard the music
the lyrics came to her instantly and before you know it we had a great verse and
chorus and the song was half way to being finished.
4. Issues and Solutions
Issue:
- I had missed one rehearsal date so when I came to the next rehearsal the lyrics written
for the song had slightly drifted from the original idea that I had. The melody, although
nice, had thrown me off completely as whilst at home I had written a few lyrics for a verse
and had come up with a melody in my head. When in rehearsal, I felt somewhat
pressured into coming up with a whole verse to fit the melody created, bearing in mind this
is not one of my strongest points.
How we overcame the issue:
- One of the members in my group could see I was finding it difficult so we tried to come
up with a good idea that would help me get my ideas down on paper. We decided that I
would write a brief scenario of a particular situation and she would then take that and try
to fit them into becoming a verse that suited the melody. This played to both our strengths
as I am very creative and can write great stories and she can turn a great story into a
song.
