Clearly, Palm Sunday is a very important day, one of the most holy, in the Christian calendar. But, why? And, what was most important about this Sunday? ...The day itself? ...The estimated crowd of 2 million people? ...The Passover Feast? ...The City of Jerusalem? ...The Palm branches? ...The donkey? What exactly was so important? And, what is most important to you?
All four Gospels -- Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John -- record the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into the city of Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, Nisan 10. This study is an exposition of John 12:12-19 and answers the question: "What's most important about Palm Sunday?"
There are many significant symbols and features surrounding our Lord's entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. What, however, was most important? This is the question we answer in this study.

Christmas Through the Eyes of Isaiah_Ahaz' Son_Isaiah 7Stephen Palm
Frequently in Scripture, God used the birth of babies as prophetic signs. This is especially true in Isaiah 7-9 where we see God foretelling the birth of His Son, Jesus through three prophesies tied to the birth of sons. This morning we will consider the prophecy of the Immanuel child. This passage is an example of dual fulfillment, with part of the prophecy predicting the birth of a child born in the days of King Ahaz, and part of the prophecy pointing towards the birth of Jesus.

Ephesians for Beginners - #6 - The Basis for Unity in the ChurchBibleTalk.tv
Paul explains the universal nature of the church by outlining the way God has brought together the most disparate groups of that era - Jews and Gentiles. (Eph. 2:11-22)
To understand the consequences of sin we looked at what the Bible says about judgment and hell, as well as, about the places angels and people are held until judgment day.
New Testament Survey no.13: Paul - His Letter to GalatiaClive Ashby
As part of the New Testament Survey Course, Session 13 provides an overview of the letter of the Apostle Paul to the churches in the region of Galatia. (This is part of the New Testament Survey Course taught at Harare Theological College - 2016)
The rebirth experience marks the beginning of the Christian life and a new, living connection to Christ. From Bondage to Freedom is an effective aid in obtaining this experience. It clearly shows just what we can expect from God and how we can cooperate with Him in forming a Christ-like character. For those who are struggling with problems in their own life which they seem unable to overcome, as well as for those who have come to accept their character defects, this booklet will prove to be an eye-opener. The editor tells of his own experience and invites the reader to take God at His word and experience the power of the gospel.

Extra Credit – Reflection on the Nativity Gospels
Instructions: The following passages are read in many Christian churches around Christmas. This particular
order is based off of the Byzantine Catholic order of readings for the morning and evening services for
Christmas Eve. For 2.5 points extra credit, read the following narratives and write a 1 page reflection (12pt
Times New Roman, 1-inch margins, single-spaced); you can reflect on such things as how a Christian would
understand these passages, your own reactions to these passages or their order, or how these passages refer to
different topics we have discussed in this course. This extra credit assignment is due by class time (either email
or hard copy) on Thursday, December 3rd. No late submissions will be accepted!
(Matthew 1: 18-25)
18 Now this is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but
before they lived together, she was found with child through the Holy Spirit.
19 Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man, yet unwilling to expose her to shame, decided to divorce
her quietly.
20 Such was his intention when, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph,
son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the Holy Spirit that
this child has been conceived in her.
21 She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:
23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son,
and they shall name him Emmanuel,”
which means “God is with us.”
24 When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife into his home.
25 He had no relations with her until she bore a son, and he named him Jesus.
(Luke 2:1-20)
1 In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole world should be enrolled.
2 This was the first enrollment, when Quirinius was governor of Syria.
3 So all went to be enrolled, each to his own town.
4 And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called
Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,
5 to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.
6 While they were there, the time came for her to have her child,
7 and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger,
because there was no room for them in the inn.
8 Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over their flock.
9 The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck
with great fear.
10 The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be
for all the people.
11 For today ...
Mr. Henry Sike, Professor of Oriental Languages at Cambridge, first translated and published this Gospel in 1697. It was received by the Gnostics, a sect of Christians in the second century, and several of its relations were credited in the following ages by other Christians, viz., Eusebius, Athanasius, Epiphanius, Chrysostom, &c. Sozomen says, he was told by many, and he credits the relations, of the idols in Egypt falling down on Joseph, and Mary's flight thither with Christ; and of Christ making a well to wash his clothes in a sycamore tree, from whence balsam afterwards proceeded. These stories are from this Gospel. Chemnitlus out of Stipulensis, who had it from Peter Martyr, Bishop of Alexandria, in the third century, says, that the place in Egypt where Christ was banished is now called Matarea, about ten miles beyond Cairo; that the inhabitants constantly burn a lamp in remembrance of it; and that there is a garden of trees yielding a balsam, which were planted by Christ when a boy. M. La Crosse cites a synod at Angamala, in the mountains of Malabar, A.D. 1599, which condemns this Gospel as commonly read by the Nestorians in that country. Ahmed Ibn Idris, a Mahometan divine, says, it was used by some Christians in common with the other four Gospels; and Ocobius de Castro mentions a Gospel of Thomas, which he says, he saw and had translated to him by an Armenian Archbishop at Amsterdam, that was read in very many churches of Asia and Africa, as the only rule of their faith. Fabricius takes it to be this Gospel. It has been supposed, that Mahomet and his coadjutors used it in compiling the Koran. There are several stories believed of Christ proceeding from this Gospel; as that which Mr. Sike relates out of La Brosse's Persic Lexicon, that Christ practised the trade of a dyer, and his working a miracle with the colours; from whence the Persian dyers honour him as their patron, and call a dye-house the shop of Christ. Sir John Chardin mentions Persian legends concerning Christ's dispute with his schoolmaster about his A B C; and his lengthening the cedar-board which Joseph sawed too short.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

Luke 2 christ is born
1. Christ Born of Mary
2 And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus
that all the world should be registered. 2 This census first took place while Quirinius
was governing Syria. 3 So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.
4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city
of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of
David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife,[a] who was with child. 6 So it
was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered.
7 And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling
cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the
inn.
2. Micah 5:2
The Coming Messiah
2 “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
Though you are little among the thousands
of Judah,
Yet out of you shall come forth to Me
The One to be Ruler in Israel,
Whose goings forth are from of old,
From everlasting.”
Caesar Augustus reigned as
emperor of the Roman empire from
27 B.C. to 14 A.D., 41 years in all.
(The grandnephew of Julius Caesar )
his real name was Gaius Octavius
and he lived from 63 B.C. to 14 A.D.
Because Julius Caesar had legally
adopted Octavius as his
son, Octavius took the name
"Caesar" from Julius, which in later
years became a name almost
equivalent to "emperor."
3. "Augustus" is a Latin term that means "worthy of reverence." Caesar
Augustus's reign was marked by peace and security - the famous Pax
Romana - as well as by lavish building projects throughout the empire.
Augustus had such an intense interest in religion within his realm that, if not
for his other great achievements, he might have gone down in history as a
religious reformer. In his day, belief in the traditional Greco-Roman
pantheon had decreased dramatically as philosophical skepticism grew and
a growing number joined the foreign mystery religions. Augustus was
convinced that belief in the old gods had made Rome great so he set out to
encourage his subjects to return to the worship of these gods. He restored
eighty-two temples in Rome alone! He became the pontifex maximus
(highest priest) in the state cult.
4. Glory in the Highest
8 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping
watch over their flock by night. 9 And behold,[b] an angel of the Lord stood before
them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.
10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings
of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of
David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find
a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising
God and saying:
14 “Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”[c] (toward men of goodwill)
5. 2 Samuel 7:12-16
12 “When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your
fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come
from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He
shall build a house for My name, and I will establish
the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be his
Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits
iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with
the blows of the sons of men. 15 But My mercy shall
not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I
removed from before you. 16 And your house and your
kingdom shall be established forever before you.[a]
Your throne shall be established forever.”’”
6. 15 So
it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the
shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that
has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 And they came with
haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. 17 Now when they
had seen Him, they made widely[d] known the saying which was told them concerning
this Child. 18 And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told
them by the shepherds. 19 But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her
heart. 20 Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things
that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.
Where else in the Bible did God speak to someone watching sheep?
7. Moses at the Burning Bush
3 Now Moses was tending the flock of
Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of
Midian. And he led the flock to the back of
the desert, and came to Horeb, the
mountain of God. 2 And the Angel of the
LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire
from the midst of a bush. So he
looked, and behold, the bush was burning
with fire, but the bush was not consumed.
3 Then Moses said, “I will now turn aside
and see this great sight, why the bush
does not burn.”
Sheep were kept in the open fields
from March to December. No one
knows the exact time of Jesus’ birth
or why the church selected December
25. The first celebration of Christmas
was recorded in AD 354.
