Lone Star Conference Indoor Track & Field athletes have recorded four NCAA Division II Automatic qualifying
marks (three men and one women) and 91 provisional efforts (44 men, 47 women). See the LSC performance

LSC INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2016 Lone Star Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held at the Adams State Indoor
Bubble and Fieldhouse in Alamosa, Colo. on February 20-21.
The meet begins at 10:30 a.m. MT Saturday and continues at 11 a.m. MT Sunday. Results and complete
meet information may be found at www.lonestarconference.org.
The league has three men’s and one women’s team in the top 25 of the national team computer rankings
(Feb. 16) conducted by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The men’s
rankings included No. 7 Texas A&M-Kingsville, No. 21 Texas A&M-Commerce, and No. 23 West Texas A&M,
while the women are represented by No. 20 Angelo State.
A&M-C is the defending men’s champion, while WT has won the last two titles on the women’s side.
The Adams State facility has a 200-meter track with six lanes on the oval and eight sprint lanes. The entire
facility is a Beynon surface. The Indoor Bubble hosts several regular season meets and has been home to the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Championships in previous years.
The meet was scheduled to take place at the Texas Tech Athletic Training Center in Lubbock, Texas, but on
December 31 the roof of the ATC deflated due to Winter Storm Goliath canceling all events.
The NCAA championships are March 11-12 in Pittsburg, Kan.
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MEN’S TRACK
Javier Lopez, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, JR, Cóodoba, Spain, Dionisio Ortiz
Lopez again registered an automatic qualifying performance in the 60-meter hurdles at the Music City
Challenge, crossing the line at 7.73, the top mark in the finals after doing the same in the preliminaries with a
7.82 performance. The 7.73 mark won the event for the Spaniard and it was the second best in Texas A&M-
Kingsville history and in Division II this season.
MEN’S FIELD
Lutalo Boyce, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, JR, Westbury, N.Y., Westbury HS
Boyce set the top mark in NCAA Division II in the long jump at the Music City Challenge in Nashville Saturday.
His leap of 25-11.5 (7.91m) in the long jump is the school record and an automatic qualifier. The reigning
indoor long jump champion will have the opportunity to defend his crown in a couple of weeks. The mark
shattered the previous high in Division II and is the fourth best mark in all of NCAA.
WOMEN’S TRACK
Kaina Martinez, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, SR, Seine Bight, Stann Creek, Belize, Independena
Martinez capped of her season before the LSC Championship with a 24.39 mark in the 200m dash. On day two,
Martinez posted the seventh best mark in school history and a provisional time in the 400m dash, crossing the
line at 55.91. The 4x400m relay team of LaGa’e Brigance, Jasmine Miller, Teandria Taylor and Martinez set a
provisional time, placing sixth with the fourth best mark in school history at 3:50.56.
WOMEN’S FIELD
Alta Abbott, Texas A&M University-Commerce, SO, Venus, Texas, Venus HS
Abbott jumped an NCAA Provisional mark in the high jump at the Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kansas with a
jump of 5-7.25 (1.71m). Abbott is now in the top ten of Division II as well as in the top two in the Lone Star
Conference with that jump. Abbott is also the new record holder at A&M-Commerce for the indoor high jump
event.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Luis Romero, Texas A&M University-Commerce, topped his own school record in the 800-meter run this
season by running a 1:50.21, marking a NCAA Provisional time and set a new facility record. This is now the
eighth fastest time in Division II and second in the Lone Star Conference.
Julian Clark-Coronado, Eastern New Mexico University, finished sixth in the men’s 200m at the Northern
Arizona University Invitational, with a time of 22.09. His finish was just .01 behind Central Arizona’s Samson
Nathaniel.
Daniel Gyasi, West Texas A&M University, broke the school record in the 400 meters at the Don Kirby Invite
and anchored the 4 x 400 meter relay that broke a school record. His time of 47.78 in the 400m ranks him No.
9 in the nation entering the conference championships. The 4x400m relay’s time of 3:13.70 is the sixth-fastest
this season and broke the existing school record by nearly two seconds.
Dylan Willett, Tarleton State University, ran the mile in 4:08.57 to place third but the senior claimed a
provisional mark in the process. Willett’s time ranks second in the Lone Star Conference this season, trailing
only Chase Rathke’s 4:05.08 set on January 29.

Joseph Brown, Texas A&M University-Commerce,
threw a 54-5.25 (16.59m) in the shot put at the
Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kansas this week. Brown’s
throw is a NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark, and is
ranked third in the Lone Star Conference, and 20th in
Division II.
Paolo Lazaric, West Texas A&M University, moved
into second all-time in school history with his
clearance 6-8 (2.03m) in the high jump at the Don
KirbyInvitational. He will entertheLSC championships
with the second-best mark in the conference.
Kamryn McKee, Texas A&M University-Commerce,
topped her record from a year ago in the 400-meter
run with a NCAA Provisional time of 56.27 seconds.
This time places McKee in the top 20 in the nation
for Division II athletes, second in the Lone Star
Conference, and sets a new record for the Lions
program.
Sabrina Huelga, Eastern New Mexico University,
led an outstanding effort by the Eastern New Mexico
University indoor track & field teams on the second
day of the Northern Arizona Invitational. The senior
turned in second-place finishes in both the one-mile
and 3,000-meter runs. Huelga’s time of 10:54.79 in
the 3,000-meter run was just 1.17 behind Northern
Arizona’s Kayla Freeman. It also put her more than
30 seconds ahead of third place finisher, Kaitlin Volk,
from Central Arizona. She also crossed the finish line
at 5:12.85 in the one-mile run, more than 10 seconds
ahead of the next finisher.
Shanice Cameron, West Texas A&M University,
put together another strong weekend in sprints
running the third-fastest time in school history in the
200 meters. Her time of 24.71 was good enough for
29th place. She also placed 31st in the 60 meter dash
running 7.72.
Aly Coughlin, Tarleton State University, broke
her own school record in the 3000m that she set
two weeks ago. This time Coughlin ran a 9:49.06 to
earn another provisional time and placed second.
Coughlin’s old record was 9:57.41. It’s the second
straight meet that Coughlin has claimed a provisional
mark after she did so in the 5000m. Both of Coughlin’s
times in the 3000m and 5000m are tops in the LSC
this season.
Aricela Alvarez, Texas A&M University-Kingsville,
had the second best triple jump mark in Javelina
history with a jump of 38-0 (11.58m). Alvarez’s mark
is also a provisional qualifier... setting a provisional
mark in the long jump, Alvarez posted a mark of 19-
1.25 (5.82m).
Holly Cunigan, West Texas A&M University, took
ninth in the shot put at the Don Kirby Invitational with
a mark of 46-10.75 (14.29m). That is the best mark in
the conference by eight inches and ranks No. 12 in
that nation.
Shelby Jones, Eastern New Mexico University,
paced ENMU in the shot put which was an
exceptionally strong event for the Greyhounds at
the Northern Arizona University Invitational. She
recorded a throw of 40-2 (12.24m) to finish eighth.

Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico University indoor track &
field team continued to perform well as they prepare
for this week’s Lone Star Conference championships.
The team was paced at Northern Arizona by the trio
of Julian Clark-Coranado, Shelby Jones and Sabrina
Huelga. Clark-Coronado finished sixth in the men’s
200m, with a time of 21.97. His finish was just .01
behind Central Arizona’s Samson Nathaniel. The
shot put was an event both the Greyhound men’s
and women’s teams found similar success in at the
Invitational. Jared Bachman (41-4.5) took eighth
in the men’s throw, while Shelby Jones (40-2) was
eighth in the women’s event. Behind her were
Adilene Adame and Laura Grube at ninth and 10th,
respectively. Mathew King was ninth in the men’s
shot put. Sabrina Huelga turned in second-place
finishes in both the one-mile and 3,000-meter runs.
Huelga’s time of 10:54.79 in the 3,000-meter run was
just 1.17 behind Northern Arizona’s Kayla Freeman.

Tarleton State
Tarleton track and field completed its final regular
season indoor meet at the Howie Ryan Invitational in
Houston and came away with several school records
and provisional marks. Aly Coughlin broke her own
school record in the 3000m that she set two weeks
ago. This time Coughlin ran a 9:49.06 to earn another
provisional time and placed second. Coughlin’s
old record was 9:57.41. Dylan Willett ran the mile
in 4:08.57 to place third but the senior claimed a
provisional mark in the process. Willett’s time ranks
second in the Lone Star Conference this season,
trailing only Chase Rathke’s 4:05.08 set on January
29. DeAijha Hicks-Boyce set a new school record in
the women’s 200m dash with a time of 24.73 to place
sixth. In the men’s 60m dash, Cornealius Blair set a
new school record by running a 6.99 in the semifinals.
Rathke won the 800m in a time of 1:54.95. It’s
Rathke’s second first-place finish of the 2016 indoor
season along with claiming the top prize in the mile.

Texas A&M-Kingsville
The Javelinas continued their sensational indoor
season at the Music City Challenge at Vanderbilt
University... Javier Lopez and Lutalo Boyce posted
automatic qualifiers and Boyce set the top mark in
the long jump in DII this season with Lopez qualifying
for nationals with his best mark of the season after
meeting the mark two other times... on the women’s
side, Aricela Alvarez, Kaina Martinez and Valarie
Vrana impressed with school marks in their respective
events.
West Texas A&M
The Buffs and Lady Buffs had athletes entered in both
the Don Kirby Invitational and Indoor Gorilla Classic
this weekend. The highlight of the weekend came
on Saturday afternoon when Daniel Gyasi broke the
school record in the 400 meters and returned to
anchor the 4 x 400 meter relay to a school record.
Gyasi competed in his first open 400 meters as a
Buff and ran 47.78 which is No. 9 in the nation. The
4 x 400m relay finished second overall beating five
Division I in a new school record time of 3:13.70.
That makes them the fifth-fastest team in that
nation this season. Blake Whalen and Tyson Wieland
performed well in Kansas running top five times in
their respective events. Whalen ran the third-fastest
5,000 meters in school history (14:41.33) while
Wieland ran the sixth-fastest 3,000 meters (8:32.57)
at the same meet. Jamie Taylor-Caldwell ran the fifth-
fastest mile in school history finishing 16th in 4:09.09.
Paolo Lazaric cleared 6-8 (2.03m) in the high jump for
the second best mark of all-time. On the women’s
side, Holly Cunigan improved on her mark in the shot
put with her throw of 46-10.75 (14.29m). That is the
fifth best throw in school history and ranks her No.
12 in the nation. Shanice Cameron continued her
strong season running the third-fastest time in school
history in the 200 meters. She also ran the fourth-
fastest time in the 60 meter dash. Jasmine Pitts ran
the sixth-fastest time in the 60 meter dash. Victoria
Rausch finished 27th in the 60 meter hurdles with
10th fastest time in school history running 8.73. The 4
x 400 meter relay ran the third-fastest time in school
history in 3:50.38 finishing 13th.
