survive and grow.
• These special features that enable them to survive in
a particular area are called adaptations.
• The factors which influence the adaptations are:
a) habitat

c) protection
d) reproduction

5. Adaptations to Habitat
The natural place where an animal lives and reproduces is called its habitat.
On the basis of their habitats, animals are classified as:
Terrestrial
•Animals that live on land.
•They breathe with the help of their lungs.
•The various types of Terrestrial animals are:
Wild animals
Domestic land animals
Desert animals
Animals in cold regions
Aquatic
•Animals that live in water.
•They breathe through gills.
• Many of them have fins to swim.
•They live in both fresh and sea water.
Amphibians
•Animals that live both in water and on land.
•They breather through moist skin in water
and lungs on land.
•They have webbed feet to swim
•They lay eggs in water.
Arboreal
•Animals that spend mostly on trees.
•They have strong arms and legs.
•Their long tail, the fifth limb is used to hold
the branches.
Aerial
•Animals that fly in air.
•They have wings to help them fly.
•They have hollow bones which makes their
bodies light.
•The feathers keep them warm.
•Their tails help them to change the
direction during flight.
