On April 20, Southern Georgia Regional Commission stakeholders met for a virtual roundtable discussion on employment and transportation issues. During the event, Courtney Cherry, Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments (SC), shared information about administering a regional vanpool program to provide regional residents with an affordable commute option.

3. WHAT IS A VANPOOL?
Group of people going to the same workplace area from the
same community, riding together in a van.
Lowcountry Go program offers this regional ride-matching
services for individuals as a cost-effective way to commute
while also working with regional stakeholders and employers
to implement this option as an incentive.
VANPOOLS TYPICALLY:
• Carry 4 to 15 passengers
• Operate Monday thru Sunday
• A to B - Travel between one or two common pick-up
locations and the place of work
• All participants, including the driver, must be commuting

Participants split the monthly

OUR GOALS:
• Identify areas that have decreased or lack of transportation options
• Bring awareness to existing services by connecting and presenting to regional
employers and rural communities
• Partner with employers/organizations to market program
• Provide a transportation service that helps solve problems for employers and
employees.
• Establish incentives for employers and individual commuters, resulting in a
deeper behavior changes
Ultimately, the goal is to improve both accessibility and mobility throughout the urban and rural areas of
the Tri-County region. Towards these goals, the Lowcountry Go Vanpool Program will provide assistance for
commuters in need.
10. EMERGENCY RIDE HOME
