 How can we love God?
 Where is our Community?
Mark 12:29-31 ESV Jesus answered, “The most important
is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
[30] And you shall love the Lord your God with all your
heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and
with all your strength.’ [31] The second is this: ‘You shall
love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other
commandment greater than these.”
Luke 6:27-36 “But I say to you who hear, Love your
enemies, do good to those who hate you, [28] bless those
who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. [29] To one
who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and
from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold
your tunic either. [30] Give to everyone who begs from
you, and from one who takes away your goods do not
demand them back. [31] And as you wish that others
would do to you, do so to them.
[32] “If you love those who love you, what benefit is that
to you? For even sinners love those who love them.
[33] And if you do good to those who do good to you,
what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.
[34] And if you lend to those from whom you expect to
receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to
sinners, to get back the same amount.
[35] But love your enemies, and do good, and lend,
expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be
great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind
to the ungrateful and the evil. [36] Be merciful, even as
your Father is merciful.
• Wasn’t Jesus Speaking this Ethic to Jewish People?

• Weren’t the neighbors – their Jewish brothers?

• Didn’t God want Israel in the OT to destroy the
neighbor, be circumcised and not intermarry with the
  non-Jew?

Isaiah 49:6 “It is too light a thing that you should be my
servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back
the preserved of Israel; I will make you as a light for the
nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the
earth.”
Luke 24:44-49 Then he said to them, “These are my words
that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that
everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the
Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” [45] Then he
opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, [46] and
said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should
suffer and on the third day rise from the dead,
[47] and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should
be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from
Jerusalem. [48] You are witnesses of these things.
[49] And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father
upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with
power from on high.”
