I am writing to offer my recommendation of Luz Murillo. As the Field Director for Congressman
John Garamendi’s re-election campaign, I had the privilege of overseeing our field programs in
which Luz played an important role. As a participant in our Pathway to Progress Internship, Luz
learned how to advocate effectively for the Congressman, how to evaluate and discern between
various policy initiatives and proposals, and how to develop persuasive arguments when talking
with voters. Furthermore, Luz learned the key components of community organizing,
organizational development, and event planning and execution.
To give you a sense of what our organization was able to accomplish and to put Luz’s work into
perspective, I will briefly share with you some of our biggest achievements. During this election
cycle, our team made over one million voter contact attempts, we organized and staffed a five
thousand person rally in which President Clinton, Congressman Ami Bera, and Congressman
John Garamendi were the principal speakers, and our fundraising team raised twenty thousand
dollars in twenty days. I am writing on behalf of Luz Murillo because she distinguished himself
through her exceptional work ethic and dedication to service.
Throughout the campaign, Luz displayed impressive discipline and responsibility, an uncommon
commitment to humility and service, and a sense of teamwork and camaraderie that
distinguished her as a leader. We evaluate our team members in three categories: commitment,
competence, and character. I can proudly say that Luz excelled in all three of these categories
and fully earned my recommendation.
I know that Luz will be an excellent candidate for your organization. Her maturity and strength
of character are quite exceptional for a young person, and I have been consistently impressed
with the quality of Luz’s work and her strength of character. I am convinced that Luz will be a
