Long working hours can negatively impact both individuals and society. Prolonged overtime can endanger employees' health by increasing risks of illnesses, early retirement, and even premature death. It also leaves little time for socializing and family, which can lower birthrates. Companies that demand long work hours will ultimately employ fewer total people as well. While economic gains may result short-term from overwork, the long-term costs to public health, families, and unemployment outweigh these benefits. Governments and businesses should limit excessive overtime to temporary situations to avoid grave consequences.

This talk goes into the reasons for this, the consequences of working too much, the benefits of having the right balance, and ways of achieving a better balance. A significant number of workers seem to have problems in finding the right
balance between family life and work life. This affects their personal
health, health of their families and organisations they work for. Striking a
right balance between work and life has become increasingly important to
organisation. This concept is also increased due to increase in number of
women in paid work. This encouraged the employers to adopt flexible
working arrangements such as job sharing, flexi time, compressed hours
and others to help their employees to achieve a better balance between
their work life and private life. The purpose of this paper is to establish
whether work life balance initiatives will improve individual and
organisational performance. The results of a number of studies reviewed in
this paper show the outcomes and the benefits of implementing work life
balance practices not only for employees themselves but also for their
families, organisation and society. In the end of the article researchers
propose several suggestions about the effectiveness of having work life
balance arrangements.

We are all faced with challenges constantly in every area of our lives. Most people have a hard time accepting and dealing with these challenges that arise. The truth is that you will have to deal with difficult problems throughout your life, whether it is in your personal life or career.
Work-life-balance is about striking a balance between the work for which a person gets paid and the personal commitments in his life, and how they impact on one another. Finding a suitable balance between work and daily living is a challenge that all workers face. An important aspect of work-life balance is the amount of time a person spends at work. Evidence suggests that long work hours may impair personal health, jeopardize safety and increase stress.
For an employer, work-life-balance is about creating a productive work culture where the potential for tensions between work and other parts of people's lives is minimised. This means having appropriate employment provisions in place, and organisational systems and supportive management underpinning them.

1. Long Average Working Hours ( Opion Essay simple)
In some countries working long hours is regarded the norm. Economic success resulting
from long work hours comes at a price for families, people’s health and may contribute
to higher unemployment. In my opinion the long term consequences are to grave to
ignore and an effort must be made to reduce long working hours.
The most serious effect of working overtime constantly is putting employee’s health at
risk and causing illness, early retirement or even premature deaths. When working long
hours it is more difficult to maintain a healthy life style, like finding time to exercise
and relax. An unhealthy lifestyle increases the risk of heart disease, diabetes and stress
related illnesses. Being chronically overworked can also cause psychological problems,
like burnout, depressions or even suicides. All these health problems can cause high
immaterial and material cost to society.
Another problem is the workforce’s limited time for social contacts and families. Long
work hours do not make a very family friendly environment. People may find it hard to
raise children and work. In particular, women may have to decide against working or
having children. Because of long work hours, some employees will not find the time for
a relationship or family at all and remain single. Consequently, birthrates are likely to
fall, which can for example be observed in Japan. A low birthrate might leave a society
with an aging population and results in many hard to solve problems.
Lastly, companies that require longer work hours will employ less people in total. It is
obvious, that if people would only work regular hours more people would be employed
instead of some people being overworked and other unable to find work. The society
has pick up the bill for most of the cost of unemployment and the consequences of
people working too much.
In conclusion, I believe that the advantages of long work hours exists only short-term.
The negative effects are a burden to society. It would be beneficial if governments and
companies understand the long-term cost and limit long work hours to short-term
overflow work.
