Loki is usually portrayed as the trickster god in Norse mythology. Originally an ice giant, he was adopted by Odin. Loki is responsible for the deaths of some gods, including killing Balder using mistletoe as he knew it was Balder's only weakness. Loki had three monstrous children: the wolf Fenrir who eats Tyr's hand, the serpent Jörmungandr who circles the world, and Hel who rules the underworld of the same name. The artwork displayed shows Loki chained up with snakes above him as his wife attempts to save him.
