1. Location Ideas
Scene 1: INT.ALEX’SBEDROOM. DAY
Description– The firstlocationisthat of Alex (the protagonist)’sbedroom.Thiswouldideallyappear
as a conventional teenage boys bedroom, inordertopromptaudience identificationwiththe
setting. The roomshouldsuitthe personalityandinterestsof the character, appearingartistically
decorated(forexample,withdrawingsonthe surroundingwalls).
Suitability– This location suitsthe themesandcharacterswithinthe production.Bypresentingthe
bedroomina mannerwhichisconventional tothe charactersage and gender,we will be able to
promptaudience identification(which,asdiscoveredthroughaudience research,isvital toengaging
our targetaudience). We will, however, ensure thatthisalsofitswiththe individualityof the
character, bydisplayinghisdrawingsonthe walls.Thiscreatesadirectlinktothe narrative (whichis
drivenbythe presence of these drawings),thereforeestablishingandforeshadowingnarrative
withinthe openingsequence. Inadditiontothis, the inclusionof hisdrawingsallowscharactersto
be established,creatingadirectlinkbetweenthe titlesequence andmainnarrative (allowingthe
audience torecognise thatthe previouslyshowndrawingsbelongtoAlex,thusprovidinginsightinto
hischaracter).
Potential Locations – The locationsavailabletouswouldbe the housesof our cast/crew members,
as shownbelow:
 Miles’house –This locationcouldbe usedintermsof visual appearance (i.e the bedroom
belongstoa male and couldbe potentiallysuited);howeverisimpractical due toits
distance.
 Bailee’sorMichelle’shouse –We wouldbe unable touse these locations, aswe require a
bedroomwhichappearstobelongtoa teenage boy.
 Chris’house – Thislocationwouldworkintermsof practicality(i.e itisclose tothe school,
fromwhichwe wouldwalk),aswell asvisual appearance (i.ethere isspace onthe wallsto
decorate withdrawings).
 Sam’shouse – Sam’s house wouldbe practical intermsof appearance,howeverwe would
be unable towalkthere fromschool due to distance
Scene 2 – EXT. ALLEY. DAY.
Description– Thislocationwill be usedtofilmthe kidnappingscene, soasa resultwill needto
appeardark/thrilling.Ideallythiswill be spaciousenoughforustofilm andact effectively,however
it shouldalsoappearrelativelysmallandclaustrophobic(inordertoestablishtensionandmake it
appearas thoughthe charactersare unable toescape). Furthermore, the locationshouldseem
derelictorisolated,asthiswouldagaincreate tensionsurroundingthe impossibilityof the
characters escape.The creationof suspense isrequiredwithinourproduction,asouraudience
researchfeedbackdisplayedthataudienceslookfortension/suspense withinthrillermovies.
Suitability– This locationstronglyconnotestogenre,asitisappearsdark, claustrophobicand
suspenseful –as a result, itisconventional of the thrillergenre.Inadditiontothis, the locationhasa
2. directlinktonarrative,as itwas previouslydisplayedinthe drawingswithinthe title sequence.This
therefore meansthatthe settingisusedtoestablishnarrative –by creatinga directlinkbetweenthe
drawingsandlocation, thisaspectof the narrative isestablishedtothe audience.
Potential Locations – The ideal locationsforthiswouldbe close toourfilminglocationforthe
previousscene (Chris’house),asthiswouldincrease the pace andeffectivenessof filming.Asa
result, the potential locationswouldbe thatof a streetor nearbyalleyway. The streetwouldprovide
us withmore space and filmingaccessibility;howeverthe use of an alleywaywouldcreate stronger
connotationstothe thrillergenre, thus buildingmore suspense and makingthismore ideal interms
of visual appearance.
Scene 3 – INT. ART ROOM. DAY.
Description– Thislocationwill onlybe usedbriefly, todisplaythe artpieceswhichwillbe shown
duringthe title sequence. The areawill needtobe aconventional artroomin a school, ideally
surroundingbyart materialsorsupplies(whichwill be placedaroundthe drawings).Thiswillrequire
eitheranemptytable (onwhichthe drawings/surroundingpropscanbe placed),orbare walls
(whichthe drawingscanbe pinnedupon).
Suitability– This locationisnotstrictlyconventional tothe thrillergenre,asitappearsrelatively
mundane andlight.Thiswill, however,be made more conventional throughboththe contentsof the
drawings(whichwill displaydarkeventstolaterbe showninthe narrative),aswell asthe
surroundingsupplies(i.e redpaint). Furthermore, the use of anart room establishesnarrative,as
well askeythemes. The theme of artis relevantthroughoutthe storyline, drivingthe plotforwards –
by openingthe productionwithasettingwhichisconventional tothistheme, the narrative is
inevitablyestablished.
Potential Locations – The ideal locationforfilmingthisscene wouldbe withinthe artroomat our
school.Notonlyisthisthe onlyart roomto whichwe wouldhave easyaccess, howeveritisentirely
practical in termsof efficiencyand familiarity. We are aware thatthe locationpossessesthe required
qualities(i.e anemptytable/wall),andthereforefindthistobe a suitable location.
