The Little Ice Age was a period from the 14th to 19th centuries when average temperatures dropped by 2-3 degrees causing more frequent and intense storms. This harsher weather affected continents greatly, wiping out most crops and causing widespread starvation, famine, and diseases that killed many people. Some scientists predict there could be an abrupt cooling in the next few decades based on a recurring climate cycle, as the Little Ice Age provides insight into potential future periods of colder temperatures.
