Samantha had a strong early love of reading developed through bedtime stories with her mother. This love continued through elementary school where reading was an important family activity. In middle school, Samantha used reading to escape and learn about the world, and it was her favorite class. However, in high school reading shifted to an assignment focus rather than enjoyment, which continued into college where socializing took priority. Today, Samantha has regained her enjoyment of reading by choosing books that catch her interest.

Don’t Ever Let Someone Tell You That You Can’t Do Something:
A Literacy Narrative
I will never forget learning how to read and write for the very first time. I used to closely
watch my sister do her work for college. Then, I would innocently sit by her and read a book to
mimic her. This memory immediately comes to my head when I think about how I learned to
read. I remember my sister getting me ready for a bath on one warm summer night before my
first day of kindergarten. I told her how excited I was for the next day and asked her, “Will I
learn how to read and count?” She replied with “Yes, you’re going to learn your ABCs and your
123s and everything else.” I went onto to ask her, “But what are ABCs?” She said, “You’ll find
out.” Then, I washed up quickly and continued to get ready for the next day.
Ever since that first day, I would annoyingly show my sister my books and worksheets
and ask her about every word I couldn’t pronounce. She would tell me to just sound them out
instead of telling me every one of them. So I did exactly that. I would patiently sit there every
day and analyze words that I couldn’t say. I broke them down word by word, never giving up. I
would divide the words up by their letters as if they were math problems. I built word upon word
every day. I was fascinated by books series such as Arthur and The Bernstein Bears. I loved
everything about them from the way they felt in my hand to the world that they took me into just
by reading. I also mimicked my brother when he did his reading for school. I loved being
around my siblings and doing everything they did, no matter what it was. So while they were

reading to accomplish goals in school, my earliest recollections of reading and writing were
simply for the enjoyment of being closer to the people I loved the most.
As I went through elementary school, I always especially enjoyed reading books and
writing. I used to read books such as Dav Pilkey’s Captain Underpants and Jeff Kinney’s Diary
of a Wimpy Kid. I would read the books then rewrite my own version of a certain chapter
because I thought my version would be more interesting and whimsical. I had composition
books full of my imaginative writings. They also had different cartoon sketches I would make
up. Those books were amazingly colorful due to the fact that I wrote mostly with colored
pencils. I spent months upon months perfecting those composition notebooks that I called books.
Page by page, I would fill them up. I remember also asking my friends for help along the way.
They weren’t as interesting; in fact, they may have thought it was a little silly for me to actually
think my writings were real books. I remember days where I used to get in trouble for writing

Literature Narrative
As a young child, I was always fascinated by other things other than books. Books seemed boring especially those that did not have pictures. My parents took me to a school with many children. All the children there wore the same clothes which I later came to know were uniforms. In the school, there were adults who I later came to learn that they were our teachers. I thought they had mood swings since they would be angry at times and soon after be so affectionate, play and sing with us. My favorite subjects in the school were drawing, painting, playing and storytelling classes.
I grew up rather fast and began to understand many other things about the school. I had mixed feelings about school, and that included writing and reading. I learned how to write and read when I was still in kindergarten. I can vaguely remember the first steps in knowing how to write. It was hard and it took me almost a week just to know how to hold a pen and write my name. At first, it was tiring holding a pen and writing a sentence but eventually I got the hang of it with time and it became easy and fun. Everything is a matter of practice, and the bold step of doing it. I grew to hate writing and reading, but later loved it. It’s not about how you start but how you finish.
When I was I high school, the work and the studies were overwhelming. There was so much to read through in order to display exemplary performance in my exams. However, novels, especially by Nora Roberts, were my favorite. I remember, in my class, a book would be scheduled by almost four people. I enjoyed reading captivating novels. I would be happy when a teacher did not turn up for a class, because that meant I would have time to continue reading. Surprisingly, I always found it easier to read novels as compared to school books. I think it's because my knowledge of school books were examined at the end of the semester.
As I grew up, reading and writing were the class norm, and at times one had to read the same thing repeatedly to understand the concepts laid out. That was the most boring thing with having to write assignments. I was always pleased to do my diary with content from my mind. I found it exciting putting what was on my mind on paper. Today I am a writer and writing is my life. I love writing and reading other writer's work based on the topic of my interest.
As a writer, I have discovered interesting facts about writing. Every form of writing is a discovery. As a writer, I get to discover a lot. Every time I put my thoughts on paper I am sharing something with the next generation. I know am sowing a seed, and pushing forward towards the unknown. I have also learned to lower my expectations, so that the words can flow. I don't like straining, since there won't be any valuable content. As a writer, I have read through my work to ensure I have the right content, until am sure. Writing has never .

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2. EARLY CHILDHOOD
As a young child, reading was a big part of my life. My
mother used to read to me each night before bed. My
absolute favorite book was “Goodnight Moon.” I loved
it so much, that pretty soon I was able to recite it from
memory. Reading was an important activity for us as a
family, and I believe that it led to my love of reading
later on in life.
3. ELEMENTARY
When I got to elementary school, reading was just as
important as it was during my early childhood years.
My mother enjoyed reading us the Junie B. Jones
books, and I can remember laughing until my stomach
hurt when she described a monster that would come
and try to measure her head with his mouth (leading
to the drool stains on her pillow in the morning). We
loved it, and we bonded over it. Reading also picked
up in school. As I got older, we started having to do
book reports and taking tests about the books we
read.
4. MIDDLE SCHOOL
Reading was still important to me during my middle
school years. I loved reading chapter books and feeling
so adult. With the older books came older themes. I
used books as a way to escape reality and learn more
about our world. We had a class called “reading” in
middle school, and it was always my favorite. I can
remember going on vacation and absolutely digesting
book after book on the beach.
5. HIGH SCHOOL
Reading for me took a turn when I got to high school.
Suddenly, it was less about reading for enjoyment and
more about reading to get the grade. Don’t get me
wrong, I enjoyed some of the required reading
materials. However, I also didn’t enjoy some of the
books we were assigned. I also didn’t like the tight
timelines that I had to meet. Reading a chapter per
night of a book that I wasn’t even interested in
seemed like too much. I think technology also took
over at this point. I no longer wanted to escape into a
book, I wanted to be on instant messenger with my
friends.
6. COLLEGE
Once college came, reading for enjoyment really fell to
the wayside. I no longer wanted to digest books, I
wanted to be with my friends. I once again had books
that I had to read in a short amount of time. I didn’t
enjoy this pressure. I did still read for enjoyment,
especially when it was a book that really caught my
attention.
7. TODAY
I still have a good relationship with literacy – even
more so now than high school and college. It feels like
it has come full circle for me since I am now able to
choose what I would like to read. I find that I am able
to really fly through a book when it catches my
attention. I’ve read books recently that I just cannot
seem to put down. It’s not always easy for me to find,
but it happens to be one of my favorite feelings. I love
the feeling I get when I am so interested in a book that
I begin thinking about it when I’m not reading.
