Name of music: Last Resort

Band/artist/composer: Papa Roach

Reflection: What do you like about this music? Why?

I first heard this music in a game on itouch called “Tap Tap Revenge” and as I
kept playing that song, I eventually learned its lyrics and grew to like it.

What is the mood, does it change?

The mood is rocky and punkish and it does not change at all.

Comment on the musical elements (pitch, timbre, dynamics, tempo, rhythm,
texture, structure):

Pitch: The singer has a voice a bit on the low side.

Timbre: The timbre of the electric guitar mixed well with the drums, and with
the singers voice.

Dynamics: The song was loud, and rich.

Tempo: The song is fast paced, even at the beginning, where there is already a
guitar solo.

Rhythm: The song does not have a clear rhythm.

Texture: The song has a thick texture.
Structure: The song starts with the line:
Cut my life into pieces, this is my last resort

Which shows that this song is punkish, as the singer is referencing suicide, but
in a rock n roll kind of way.

After that, a guitar solo, and verse 1, which also references suicide, and
apparently, the death of the singers mother and how he had lost the love of
another and the love of himself, on the day his mother died.

A chorus after that:

Cuz im losing my sight
Losing my mind
Wish somebody would tell me im fine
Losing my sight
Losing my mind
Wish somebody would tell me im fine

Which makes the song punkish, as in line 3 and 6, he is implying that nobody
has told him that he is fine, even though he is clearly losing his sight, and his
mind. This would lead the listener to believe that nobody likes him, or loves
him, a common theme of the punk/rock genre.
