Lisa discusses her experiences with technology over the decades from the 1970s to present day. In the 1970s, she learned to write with pencil in Catholic school and used a typewriter in high school. In the 1980s, she enjoyed using phones and her first computer experience was in college using punch cards to program. By the early 1990s she owned her first computer and was excited to get online access. Today, she is a technology addict and cannot live without her cell phone, laptop, and Kindle, though she still enjoys writing with pens.

3. I learned how to write in Cursive using the Palmer Method…proper posture was stressed and a the teacher, I St. Joseph sister used a ruler things other than measuring, if you catch my drift!

4. In Fifth Grade, I was allowed to use a pen…white out was not even invented yet…so if I made an error, I had to rip out the page and start all over again. This may explain my need for perfection.

6. I had typing as one of my classes. I learned to type on a good old-fashioned typewriter with ink ribbon, and a paper wheel to insert your typing paper.

9. As I teenager, I loved calling my friends on the phone.

10. I watched the phone advance from party lines and rotary dial, to a more advanced push button style device.

11. Through it all, I was confined to talking on the phone where ever it was “inconveniently” located, since there was no such thing as privacy when talking on the phone.

13. I attended Peirce College and received a Computer Programming Degree.

16. I felt empowered to have so many options to communicate with friends and family.

18. My computer has changed from a rebuilt-used model, to desktops in 2 rooms of my home as well as a personal laptop.

19. As the computer has evolved, so has many of its components.The computer has gone from floppy disks to flash drives and CD-roms. They enable me to save my typed files and pictures.

20. To Date To date, I would say I am a technology addict. I can not live without my cell phone, laptop, and my Kindle. I love to listen to my music on my MP3 Player. I also enjoy using Skype To communicate with my sister in Dominique. My cell phone keeps me connected to those I love! I enjoy text messaging, especially with the Qwerty keyboard on my phone. My Laptop affords me the opportunity to do my homework, take Online courses, pay my bills, and keep connected with friends and family. I would be remiss not to mention that I still love buying fine point pens. I love to hand write notes and letters to friends. My only constraint to date is time…with all these ways to communicate, I find my self addicted to technology!
